I'm trying to use the double asterisks as explained in the git-scm.com gitignore page, but it seems like EGit does pick it up and I see all kinds of files that are untracked. When I do a status sub-command from a shell I don't see the files.

Is this a planed feature if not currently supported?

AFAIK this isn't yet supported and I also didn't find an enhancement request regarding this feature.
Feel free to file a bug
