What Can Hyades Do? [message #18037] Wed, 18 May 2005 15:36 Go to next message

Hi

We are looking into using Hyades in our test system for logging and Log
analysis.

But we need clarification on part of its function.

We need a logging tool that can take 'actual' and 'expected' results,
compare the two and then tell us whether the test has passed.
So if we have coded up a test we log what is actually happenning (using
Hyades) but also log what we expect to happen. We then need Hyades to
compare the two and tell us if the test passed or Failed.

Can Hyades do this currently? If not are any extensions being developed in
this functional area?

Can anyone help?

Regards

Hi Sarah,
I believe you are looking for an arbiter implementation for your test
execution (e.g. 'actual' and 'expected' results). Unfortunately, TPTP does
not provide any such function. However, I would suggest to use the JSR-047
or Java Logging support in TPTP (see File >> New >> Example >> Hyades
Logging) to log your 'actual' and 'expected' results to two local files and
then run your arbitration code to resolve the verdict of the test case. A
good resource would be with the 2005 EclipseCon tutorials
(http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/ >> Documentation). For your specific
scenario, I would suggest the tutorial titled 'Using TPTP Logging and
Monitoring Tools' and its source code.
