The internal "searchHandler" extension point provides the IndexSearchHandler using the SearchUtil at run-time. Is the only way to provide a custom search handler to use the internal extension point? How would I go about if I'd like to re-use some of the exising functionality for instance?

My use case is as follows (and there might be a more elegant way to do this): 1) the proposals offered by the proposal provider in the task list view should be limited, 2) my custom proposals (along with custom task schema fields) should appear and be queried.
