Assign F10 Key to Debug Step Over [message #176058]

I'm using Eclipse 3.2.1 on Linux Kubuntu

Hi all,

does anyone know how I can use F10 for the functionality Run->StepOver.
I have successfully assigned F11 and Shift+F11 for Run->StepInto and
Run->StepOut and F5 for Run->Resume.

If I assign F10 it takes no effect. F10 is already assigned for
activating the File Menu but I cannot find any assignment for F10. I
also does not find a F10-assignement in the linux environment.

I'm appreciating any help.

Dear Sven,

The F10 key has a special meaning on many systems: It activates the
*menu bar* for keyboard input, e.g. how do you access the File menu
without the mouse? On Windows I press the Alt key and then I use the
cursor keys to select a menu item.

Try it with Eclipse: What happens after you press F10 and then cursor
right and then cursor down? If the Edit menu drops down then my theory
is right.

I do not know whether you can override the F10 behaviour. Maybe it's
easier to change your own programming or configure your other
development to Eclipse keyboard short cuts. That's what I've done with VS...

Hello Guenther,

I don't believe that the F10 Key has a specific meaning. For instance
thunderbird on linux: press f10 nothing happens in thunderbird, the same
is it with firefox. If I need to activate the menu without mouse I
commonly use the Alt + F or Alt + D, it depends on the shortcut and the
language of menu.

There must be a possibility to disable f10 for menu activation, if I
find I will post it

I know that this comes 9 years late, but I found this thread while looking for a solution to the same problem, so maybe this can help someone else.

The solution that worked for me was
Preferences > General > Keys
Find "Step Over"
change "When" from "Debugging" to "In Windows"
F10 should now work for stepping.

For some reason choosing "Debugging" does not work with F10 even though you are in debugging perspective and a debugging session is active.
