You need a JRE to run Eclipse itself. Can you run your installation
yet; if not, see the stick post for this forum.

In the past I used it with jre, but now I nearly forget them all. all is stating from beginning.

at my new machine, I haven't yet installed jre, but it seems no problem to vist java pages and files.
why?

If Eclipse starts, there's definitely a JRE installed and available.
Within the IDE itself you might want to use a specific one which you'd
configure in your Java -> Installed JREs preference.

as the file does not install, just extend to a certain fold. so I han't yet found any problem. but when run it, it shows that the jre is lack.
or need jdk.
now the question is why the standard version does not include jdk?

Thanks,

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Sounds fine then.

How does it show that?

I find that I always want to configure a JDK with source so I can debug
into the JRE code easily.

Because the JDKs are licensed by their providers with their own specific
rules about how they are distributed. So you'll have to get one from an
appropriate source and use it.

the elipse does not need install like other software did, just depress to some folder.

it shows need jre or jdk.
does ide for java develper include jdk?

or can I install ide for java developer without standard version?

Thanks,

I can't parse statements nor your questions... In any case, you need at
JRE to run Eclipse itself, you also need a JRE if you're going to use
Eclipse to develop Java applications (it could be a different one), and
no package comes with a JRE so you have to just get that yourself.

But when I run eclipse ide for java dev, I was prompted
"failed to create the java virtual machine" what's matter?

I test jre and all is runing well.
