There is standard version 4.3 199M,
Platform, and all the tools needed to develop and debug it: Java and Plug-in Development Tooling, Git and CVS...

yet there is Eclipse IDE for Java Developers, 151 MB
The essential tools for any Java developer, including a Java IDE, a CVS client, Git client, XML Editor, Mylyn, Maven integration...

issue. what different from them?
I download the standard version, do I have to downlaod this ide for java developer?

Thanks,

All the packages are composed from other things in the release repo, so
you can start with any package and install additional features from the
release train repo to suit your needs. So each package is just a
conveninence for a set of features you're likely to need/want for a
certain type of development task.

That's what I want to know. which package shall I dl to complete the basic java development?

I know if I use C/C++ etc. I have to dl the relative package. similarly, dl jee package for jee development.

But for java itself, what about standard version and java developer?
from repo, standard can execute java tasks.
can java developer do so independently without standard plateform?

and can standard itself executes javascript compilation?

Thanks,

You could consult
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/compare.php?release=kepler to see which
things you need/want and choose accordingly (knowing you can always add
things not included).

As I said above, I know this page to compare results.
what I want to distinguish is now that the standard version is for java development, why do they have an extra ide for java developer? is that repeating?

if there is something lack in the standard for java developer, how did it declare that it is for java ?

Thanks,

There's nothing missing for Java development in the package named
Eclipse IDE for Java Developers. However, if you wish to develop web
applications in Java, you'll want Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers,
whether you get precisely that package or download the web tools later
into the first package.

Correct. I understand that, if work with web page, we should use jee plugin.
despite not all of us dedicate to web develop, but jave is mainly used for web.

now that the standard version is for java development, so it means to be for developer else.
why does it need another java developer ide?

what is "java developer"? if we develop all form of the java utilities, are we not able to be called developer?

Im vague at this terminology.

Thanks,

I'm not sure that's true. Certainly a great many people use Java to
develop non-web applications...

It doesn't need one. Each package, as I said already, is just
convenient aggregate...

It's an aggregate with exactly the things it it that are listed as the
contents.

By "we" you mean who? The packages are named by the people that produce
them and those are the names you see.

So worry about something else. Install a package, use it, and if you
find you need something else, add that something else to your installation.

thank you very much for your patient.
the "we" means those who develop java, or say people.

so it is. run it, if there is something lack, find it and install.

Yes, each of the downloadable packages at eclipse.org is fully
stand-alone; none depends on any others.

Eclipse is really just a big pile of plug-ins. You just start with the
pile (like Eclipse IDE for Java Developers) that best suits you and, as
I think Ed already told you, you can add others to whatever package you
downloaded to start with--PHP or C/C++ tools into the original Java
ones, etc.

yes, Ed is very patient. so do you as well.

but I m still vague at the content.
I think that the standard version is a platform and others are plugin, and from your statement that all of them are independent, can install independently without the standard version?

No, it's plug-ins all the way down to the bottom. I would never install
the "standard version". Install the Java version. And install a Java
Developers' Kit (JDK) too.

The standard version has 199M, but ide for java developer has only 150M, thus we can see the first is larger than the last one. and we can imagine the first has more content than the last one. and the first one can do what the last can do.
but from your two idea, it is not.

the eclipse serial apps are really a strange category.
