Hello BIRT community,

I am pleased to announce the alpha release of Ernie, an open source project for asynchronous report generation. The Ernie embedded APIs and REST service all provide simple management of BIRT report definitions, output, and metadata. Developers can integrate Ernie using an embedded Java or Scala API, or deploy a servlet that exposes Ernie's features as a RESTful web service.

I hope some of you will clone the project on Github: github.com/ksmpartners/ernie.

Thanks,

Adam Coimbra

Is this only for use with the latest birt release, e.g. 4.3 4.2.1 ?

Hi Anthony,

The project is currently configured to use birt 4.2.2.

After doing a little research, it seems that 4.2.2 can generate reports from any design created using versions previous to 4.2.2.

It also seems that 4.2.2 can use designs created using 4.3, providing that they don't contain any functionality new for 4.3.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks,
Andy
