No pun quoting "My Fair Lady" intended ;-) Actually the authors of the
Higgins Framework claim some MOUSE named Higgins was responsible for its
code name (not heard of that one, but it might be too UK related ?)

Anyway, what is written here about it (currently a link from the Eclipse
home page) OHF is likely to require a close eye on Higgins and use it as
part of its security initiatives.

Both on the side of medical staff, but also for Social Security Smartcards
(where Higgins has interfaces with it, likely as the ones I heard of use
the "GINA" system also used in the OS like Windows)

this will be interesting. From my point of view, it overlaps with
several standards initiatives in healthcare, so it will be require
watching in that regard.

I had thought that higgins was dead. or dormant anyway. Nice to
see some action, I will try and catch up with them at Eclipse Con.

Well, at least in (Central) Europe you might still have a bit of time,
till Social Security and Healthcare standards (for insurance cards at
least, the staff ID technology in hospitals might be more advanced) are
mature and widespread.

I just saw the Austrian one die and its follow-up is pushed and forced by
the insurance body, but not more than a "Zombie" and a Shadow Internet
forcing doctors and clinics to have a redundant second line for all that
(because they were inept to incorporate established security standards in
their case)

Lets see what the German authority (under a new government now) does? I
just heard from a BEA consultant I worked with in a prior project, he
prayed this "goblet on fire" will pass his company and others (in Austria
it IS in fact IBM who is involved!) will jump into it... Their road
pricing drama and close to failure as well as a similar one in Austria
(with a common emergency network similar to 911 in the US) which totally
failed were of course indicators for his hopes and fears.

Other countries like France have an insurance card for quite a while. The
Scandinavian countries also seem to have it? So standards there are more
likely to be oriented by what THEY got than Austria's redundant sole
semi-drama... ;-/

Several IBM teams are working on security in
eclipse.

So OHF will be perfectly happy to have equinox
take the lead in this area. We have offered to
be involved as users/testers, and some of the
OHF committers may have a more direct involvement.
It's still to be determined what the boundary with
OHF will be - what things are our business.

I encouraged the Equinox guys to treat security as
a sub-project, but they weren't really interested.
I suggest that you sign up to the Equinox development
list and post the josso.org link there.
