Kura offers a Java/OSGi-based container for M2M applications running in service gateways. Kura provides or, when available, aggregates open source implementations for the most common services needed by M2M applications. Kura components are designed as configurable OSGi Declarative Service exposing service API and raising events. While several Kura components are in pure Java, others are invoked through JNI and have a dependency on the Linux operating system.

You should reconsider the name.
"Kura" sounds like men's organ for reproduction in some languages as Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Macedonian and probably several others.

Hi,

Please add me to list of interested parties

- Werner Keil, Eclipse UOMo Project lead, JSR 360/361 EG Member

More than most other M2M-oriented proposals here, this even explicitely
refers to existing or upcoming Java Standards for Embedded and devices like
javax.comm or GPIO.
Several existing JCP Expert Groups and that of least one soon to be filed
new standard in this area may find interesting synergies with this project.

About the name, I leave that to the proposing company to decide. At least
without the "Eclipse" context simply looking for keyword or hashtag "Uomo"
can also lead to "interesting" paths. Having lived in Bulgaria a while, I
understand the concerns, on the other hand, a popular example for a product
name that's a swear word in at least some other parts of the world can be
found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand_blunder#True_cases

Especially Ben Cabe and others in France might know and love "Kiri" cheese,
which see above has an identical meaning as Dobromir warned in Farsi.

Maybe for the Babel project a "Name Scan" ahead of project proposals could
be something to think about?;-)

Regards,
Werner

Werner, thanks for your interest. We are pleased to add you in the list of interested parties.

Dobromir thanks for the tip on the project name.
Is the russian swear word spelled the same way or does it just sound similar?

I did some googling and I could not find a reference to the swear word.
I did find that there is a large river named Kura is Russia and another one Georgia and that IKEA has a product named Kura in its catalog. It seems like it could be safe enough to use such name.

Thanks,
-Marco

Marco/all,

Thanks a lot for adding me on behalf of both UOMo and Oracle's IoT/Embedded
JSRs.

It's not always easy to avoid overlaps in meanings or project names.
Yesterday when dealing with some issues of M2E in earlier Eclipse versions,
it occurred to me, that M2M for the umbrella project would really be tricky,
given it's only a single character away from existing M2E.

And Oracle's very own announcement, it would grant Open Source TCKs not only
to EclipseLink/JPA, but also Eclipse Virgo (which isn't an actual JSR but
adds OSGi support for Java EE and similar environments) totally puzzled,
that one of its leading references particularly with an M2M focus is called
Konekti!;-D http://www.konekti.org

So Koneki also seems like it has troubles regarding a unique
name...especially in the M2M world.

Werner
