Subversive ready for Ganymede? [message #13881] Sat, 01 March 2008 13:45 Go to next message

Hi,

I would like to know, if Subversive officially supports Ganymede (3.4)
already?

So far the latest previews I tested with Subversive had no major
problems, but at least sharing a (Web) project from the M4 build of the
Java EE Ganymede package failed.

AFAIR it caused some kind of Overflow Exception.
So please tell me, if 3.4 is already supported?

If it's supposed to, I might create a Bugzilla entry.

Thanks,
Werner

Hello Folks.
I'm testing Ganimede too.My environment is linux.
Does Subversive use JavaHL in default setting?I know that JavaHL doesn't
run in linux.Because Subversive only contain windows native library.
I always used SVN Kit when I used Europa. So I would like to use SVN
Kit.But I can't find SVN Kit in Subversive preference page.Where is
it?Which plugin contains the library?

Dear Hiroki,

Due to Eclipse legal restrictions native connector also is not included
into the Subversive plug-in distribution and should be installed from the
Polarion.org site. So, regarding to this we returned SVN Kit 1.1.4 as
default connector. Also we added two SVN 1.5-compatible connectors: Native
JavaHL 1.5.0 development build and SVN Kit 1.2.0 development build.

P.S.
SVN Kit 1.2.0 now is not pretty stable.

Dear Werner,

The latest Subversive plug-in version should supports Eclipse Ganymede M4.
So, if you found some issues with Ganymede support please report these
issues to our bugzilla. Thank you in advance.

Is this a permanent issue or are the legal issues going to get solved at
some point? If not, then this seems like a pretty bad joke -- Subclipse
at least can be installed from a single update site, which makes a third
party plug-in more easily installable than Eclipse.org's "official" SVN
provider.

Currently the feature on the Ganymede site will be installed without any
connector and the user left to figure out what he is supposed to do get
one and not everyone is going to realise what is missing or where to
find a link to the additional update site ( like
http://www.eclipse.org/subversive )

Hi Erkki,

We work together with Eclipse Foundation to find a solution for legal
issues, because it's not only usability problem. In particular, this legal
issue seems as blocker for project inclusion in standard distribution
packages, etc. Every party here, like Subversive team, Technology PMC,
Eclipse Foundation, really want to close legal issues, but it's really
complicated process. Anyway, we already made step forward in this direction
and as the result Subversive became an Eclipse project. I beleive that
someday we will find a solution, which allows us to distribute a project as
one package.

Best regards,

As German Language Champion I'm currently testing Babel Language packs while
working with Eclipse.

And the 2 biggests "Problem Children" regarding an otherwise often up to 99%
translation are:
- Mylyn
- Subversive

I even installed what you call "Team Provider Localization (Optional)" but
whatever that means to localize, the SVN Repository perspective for Example
is still all English.
I know, other (legal) issues may keep you busy, but for a vendor already
from Germany I would call this a little embarrassing, at least for its
native language ;-)

Let me know, if you need any help on that? Babel Support is also a killer
criterium to being ready for Galileo! Not just some ongoing legal "babel"

Cheers,
Werner

Hello Werner,

Now we don't have any Babel translations for Subversive, I fired a bug about
this problem. "Team Provider Localization (Optional)" contains only french
and japan translations, but they are quite obsolete and I've also
contributed them to Babel.
Sorry, I don't fully understand the problem you wrote about, could you
please describe it in more details?

Your problem is, that unless Babel is supported, Subversive will never be
considered for Galileo Release train !!!

Unless of course, there are still other issues like the odd 2 way
installation which prevents Subversive from this??;-)

See this "Must Do" for Galileo:

- Localization The project participates in Babel, meaning it is registered
and available for string translation, etc. M6 Script

According to the Wiki page, Subversive plans to participate, but not being
registered with Babel means, it may not be accepted.

Hello Werner,

Subversive really was registered in Babel long ago (you can check it in
http://babel.eclipse.org/babel/map_files.php by selecting
technology.subversive project in projects list) but there are no
translations for it, I already reported about it:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=268926.
I also marked bug relative to corresponding Simultaneous Release requirement
as WONTFIX.
Unfortunately I can't check why there are no translations, so if it's
possible could you please check it?
Thanks for taking attention to Subversive project.

Since Subversive normally won't be preinstalled anyway (just take the
license issue, which also still looks WONTFIX ?;-) that may be acceptable as
long as Babel is supported.
You should no longer have those separate "i18n" updates though!
Did you provide the sources for that to Babel?

I could forward your last post to the Babel newsgroup, but beside that I
cannot help you as long as it does not show up in the Babel Translation
server.

The CVS Team client works perfectly well in German thanks to Babel!

It is a shame, you guys are too lazy to simply use some of these
translations.
Beside the fact, that Polarion as a German company should at least be
capable of their own native language (well for most of you at least ;-)

Werner, the syncup script will sync up those translations where they
match english strings from the CVS client to the SVN client.

Hello Werner,

I contributed our translations ("i18n") to Babel, for more details please
see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=258783.
I will remove our "i18n" plugins as soon as we have Babel translations.
I marked bug corresponding to Galileo Simultaneous Release requirement
"Localization - Babel"
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=254172) as 'wontfix'
following to advices from "Reminder and instructions to completeG-bugs" post
from cross-project mailing list: "For one, if you don't think you'll be able
to do something ... or, you think maybe there is a 50/50 chance you'll be
able to pull it off at the last minute, then don't wait, just mark is "won't
fix" and give some explanation as to why."

If any additional steps are required from our side, please, note it.
