Have you double checked the password for the dataSource?

Not sure what you mean, if i test connection and it works, would that mean the password is correct or are you referring to another area?

I did mean in your dataSet. It appears you have default values in the dataSource for user and password. These would be the ones used when you test your connection. In your property binding tab, you replace your user and password with parameter values. There are no defaults for these parameters. If you put static values in, in place of the params expressions, does it work?

This started happening ten days ago, not sure what changed other than the install of new updated eclipse, since then all reports fail with same error message. But, my user info has not changed. My problem is that I am VERY new to BIRT and there are no organized user groups. At this point I am dead in the water until I can figure this out and need an expert who I am willing to pay to help me resolve and learn birt, but cannot find anyone, and no one has responded to my posting for paid help.

If you were using Actuate BIRT, there is a pay for support group, but I don't think they take open source cases.

So, you changed versions of Eclipse/BIRT? What version did you go from and to? Have you tried putting a static value as the default, in your parameter?

was using 3.7.2 now 4.2 but just tried it in older version and it does something similar so it must be something I am doing.

Not sure what you mean static values, in your parameter.

The problem is that any report I run comes from already existing reports which were written with Eclipse version 2.6 they updated whatever needed to be so I could run and make changes to reports in version 3.7.2 but since then this error happens. When I open reports it states some type of backward capacity and you click ok, i then just preview the report and then get this heirarchy error.

By static, I mean just to put in a default value. In your dataSource when you click on test connection, the values entered in the user and password are used. If you click over to the property binding tab, you'll see that you're using parameters to fill the values for user and password. If you look in the parameter editor for each of these parameters, there isn't a default value, so I'm wondering if the dataSource is running with the empty default value and causing the error.
