I just spent a while looking around to try to see whether VE(*) is even
alleged to work with Eclipse Version 3.4(.1)..
(*: or anything like it (ieg: I saw some mumbling about a ~replacement~
for it))

..and mostly discovered that nothing related to VE has been updated since
Callisto was the newest thing out of the pipe.

Have all the VE people expired?

I also saw a note:
"For Eclipse 3.4, please use Visual Editor 1.4.
Updatesite : http://update.soyatec.org/Ganymede/ve/1.4"

...but when I added the site to my Software Updates and Add-one /
Available Software, all I got was:
"No repository found at http://update.soyatec.org/Ganymede/ve/1.4
Error reading update site
http://update.soyatec.org/Ganymede/ve/1.4.
Connection timed out: connect"

PLEASE, Is there something out there that works, or not?
(& if so, how do I get it, & then get it to work?)

Thanks,

-- M.

Well, I've spent some time looking into all the possibilities, and here's
what I've found for Eclipse 3.4.

1. VE 1.4 works fine. I've added it using the soyatec site as specified
a few times, and it always worked.
2. Visual Swing, mentioned in this group, doesn't work too well yet;
hopefully, it will be improved.
3. Jigloo, also mentioned in the Visual Swing thread, seems very
promising.

I got that error once, but it still worked. The easiest way I've found is
this (sorry if this is too basic):
1. Open menu "Help", "Software Updates".
2. Open the tab "Available Software"
3. Press the "Add Sites" button.
4. Paste in the soyatec.org site. If you get the error, go into "manage
sites", and remove it. I did that, then tried to add it again, and it said
"duplicate site". When I did that, then went back, I found that it was
still in the "Add sites" section, and had the checkbox, so I was able to
check it and install. It may have already been in the site list, but not
enabled, but somehow, it worked after going through this incantation.

I suppose you could check the "manage sites" first to see if it's in the
list already. I have no easy way to check.
