I have eclipse working, but can't figure out how to do the next step, getting git integrated with eclipse. From my searching, it seems that eGit is the proper plugin.

I've added what I think is the eGit "URL" to the "preferences -> available software sites"
so I have http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates/

Now what do I do?

What I have so far, in the Installation Details: is
Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 1.5.1.20121004-1506 epp.package.jee null
Eclipse Platform 4.2.1.M20120914-1800 org.eclipse.platform.ide null
Java EE IDE Feature 1.5.1.20121004-1506 org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.feature.feature.group

I'm running on OS-X

Hi,

EGit is definitely the way to go. Lars has realized a nice tutorial on EGit where you will be able to find most of the information that you'll need.

Thanks, but for some reason, the Help -> Install New Software brings up a dialog box "Available Software" that can take a URL. So I put "http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates" and press ADD. This causes yet another dialog box "Add Repository" that takes a "name" and "location.

Its has two additional buttons, Local and Archive. Clicking them brings up a File open/save dialog box.
Clicking "OK" after entering "egitxyz" in the name, and the http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates in the "location"

It responds with "There is no site selected"

So I don't know how to proceed, the flow that I"m seeing doesn't match Lars' tutorial or any of the other help that I've found.

Most of the help says that git is already installed in most modern releases of Eclipse. I'm running Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers.

Version: Juno Service Release 1
Build id: 20121004-1855
on OS-X

Hi,

EGit does not seems to be part of the Java EE bundle so you will need to install it.

Step 1:

Proceed with "Next" and follow the instructions and now you are ready to go!
