I haven't had any problems with it, but I don't think it's on the "official" list.

BIRT 4.2 supports Java 7.

Since Java 6 is EOL when will it be on the official list? Who can I contact since 2.6.2 and 4.2.1 are supported.

Where do you see that 2.6.2 has been validated on Java 7? In the release documentation, I only see 5 and 6. Same for 3.7. Java 7 doesn't show up in the project plan til 4.2. Let me know.

I have a note from Steve Franciso:
For Java 7 support, we do have some products running the Helios version (IES 3.6.x) on a Java 7 runtime. This is supported as 'secondary support' meaning we will accept bug reports if you have problems running with Java 7 specifically, but may need your assistance in debugging/reproducing issues. We have not had any Java 7 specific issues so far that I'm aware of.

Like I said before, I have Java 7 and have MANY older version running on my machine, with no issues. If you encounter an issue, you could always log a bug in the bugzilla. You could also log a bugzilla for just this issue and see what they say about validating the older versions or supporting any Java 7 issues that may arise.

Do you happen to know who the official owner of Birt is? I would like to get an official response on Birt and Java 7 since we have clients asking about support for java 7 and the web site http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project-plan.php?planurl=http://www.eclipse.org/birt/project/plan/birt_project_plan_3_7_1.xml#target_environments does not show support and it makes us look bad. Thanks so much.

This issue was brought up on the BIRT PMC meeting today. BIRT is owned by the community and Eclipse. The BIRT PMC manages the project and since the Eclipse platform added Java 7 support in version 3.7.1, the BIRT team will also support Java 7 in 3.7.1 and will work on any bug associated with those versions.
