Hello,

I am trying to run the Hello World template from RAP, but I didn't succeed yet.
It is a Snow Leopard 10.6.7, using a 64bit jdk 1.6.0_26 I am working on.
The result after the generation of the project is similar to this one
http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/mv/msg/440654/
Unfortunately the suggestions did not help.

I tried different versions of Eclipse Juno: Eclipse for RAP and Eclipse JEE as well (here I installed the RAP-Tools 1.5 manually) with the 64bit distributions.

Also I changed the servlet path in the run configuration and removed the Statup parameter.

There is no output in the console when I want to open the page.

Also after waiting a few seconds after the server stared and refreshing the page did not help.

During my research I looked into this problem:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=362760
Which was a warning on my eclipse startup. The warning is gone, but was not related to the problem I have.

Then I was thinking it might be a Mac problem, so I started my WinXP in VirtualBox, but the problem was the same (Eclipse Juno RAP+Jdk6 on 32bit architecture).

I decided to have a little vacation-contest with GWT and RAP to see what's worth to investigate more:
After 4 h of GWT tutorials I programed a Memory-Game, a login-window and used the Designer - no problem+fun.
After 4 h of RAP I am not even close to checkout the features Sad . In 2006 I tried the first versions of RAP and I remember I didn't had that much troubles.

So... can anybody help?
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks a lot in advance

Best Regards,
Johannes

Hi Johannes,

in order to help you, a bit more information is needed.

What exactly is the symptom of "not working", e.g. an HTTP error code?
What is the output of the command `ss` in the OSGi console?

Regards, Ralf

Hi Ralf,

thanks for helping me out here.
As mentioned before, the behavior is similar to this post
http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/mv/msg/440654/
So the browser after the start says:
HTTP ERROR: 404

Problem accessing /de.jschmidt.hello.helloapp. Reason:

ProxyServlet: /de.jschmidt.hello.helloapp
Powered by Jetty://

The console has following output:

"Framework is launched."

Johannes,

you are using a RAP 2.0 milestone version together with RAP 1.5 Tools.
There were some API changes [1] on the way to RAP 2.0, including a
change in how IApplications are registered in the plugin.xml, and the
templates included in the 1.5 tools are not compatible with RAP 2.0.

To solve this problem, you can either work with a RAP 1.5 target (choose
"latest release" in the target installer) or install the latest RAP
Tools into your Juno IDE from the RAP 2.0 Tools repo [2]. If you're
starting a new project, I'd recommend the latter, in order to avoid
having to migrate your application later. RAP 2.0 is almost finished and
will be released in February.

HTH, Ralf

If you have RAP 1.5.1 Tools installed and a RAP 1.5.1 target, then
create a new Plug-in Project using one of the RAP templates. The
generated project contains a .launch file. Start it (Choose Run as ...
from context menu). This works.

Hi Johannes,
once you get the 404 page try to reload the page without restarting the
server. Sometimes browser is opened too early, before the server is
fully initialized.
Best,

Helo Ivan,
I cannot believe that the browser opens too early. the trigger to open the browser comes from the start-process and this process detects when the server is ready. after that it opens the browser, right? if the console says: server started! then I am ready to use it - if not so, I am really confused.

Hello,

I wanted this to give it another try, please download the pictures I added:
http://www.tryek.de/content/rap-archiv.zip

- Downloaded Juno 64 bit for Mac
- went to this page: http://eclipse.org/rap/developers-guide/devguide.php?topic=getting-started/setup-ide.html&version=1.5
- passed step 1 and 2 successfully

- step 3 already showed me the errors in picture "1 - errors after creating plugin.png" I attached
- anyway I kept on doing following the steps of
http://eclipse.org/rap/developers-guide/devguide.php?topic=getting-started/hello-world.html&version=1.5
here in chapter "Create an entrypoint" there is no template in my case, it only shows the standard shortcut of creating the main-method.
- NOT clear: do I need a main-method or not? You have to assume that a newbe really does not have any idea how to set up a project for RAP, so keep it simple!!!

- I added the main-method, tried to start the class (right-click->run as...)
but here it does not show "Run as RWT Application" , see picture "2 - NO run as RWT applicacion.png"

- so I skipped that, deleted the project and tried the example from this part
http://eclipse.org/rap/developers-guide/devguide.php?topic=getting-started/examples.html&version=1.5
- here the documentation does not say what type I have to choose, see picture
1 - example - docu does not tell if eclipse or osgi.png
2 - example-activator or not.png
- again my recomendation: keep it simple, more pictures, clear steps.

- after that it shows me another error
"3 - example - error after creating project.png"

I am also very surprised that I have now completly different errors.

That was one hour of revision, still frustrated but hoping for help.
Thanks for any advice!
Best
Johannes

Even though the server is started doesn't mean that all bundles in the
OSGi container are started.

See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=282756

Hello Johannes!
I recommend to start over again with vanilla fresh Eclipse IDE. From
screenshot errors "The following software cannot be installed..." I
suggest your Eclipse installation is completely messed up.

Then you should see "Run as -> RWT Application" context menu again and
start RAP programming smoothly.
