When should a task appear in the Synchonize view? [message #12790] Mon, 16 July 2007 08:39 Go to next message

I am trying to get my workflow to fit with Mylyn, and still having
a few problems.

Sometimes I find myself in the situation that I activate a task,
work on some files, and then go to the synchronize view only to
discover that the task and its associated files to not appear there.

So this set me thinking (always dangerous). When should I expect to
see a task appear in the sync view? My intuition says it should
appear when I first save a changed file while working on a task.

I am using Europa, and Subclipse with Trac.

I find I sometimes have to refresh the Synchronize... view (and enable the
Task-based Change Sets) before the changes show up for commit under the
Task.

Yes, the Synchronize view still has refresh problems when in
models-based mode (the preferred way of working since you can see both
Incoming and Outgoing change sets at the same time).

David: another reason you may not be seeing the task change sets is that
you do not have the "Mylyn Bridge: Eclipse SDK" feature installed. I've
detailed this and other change set troubleshooting information at:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Mylyn_FAQ#Why_does_task_change_set_n ot_appear_when_I_modify_files.3F

If that FAQ entry does not address your problem please post.

I do have the Mylyn Bridge component mentioned.

I did not find the FAQ very helpful - it talked about "models mode" which is
a new concept for me and I can't see the switch mentioned in the article to
toggle it (possibly because it is CVS-specific and I am using SVN, but I
wasn't able to tell from reading the FAQ?).

The documentation is for the Mylyn-distributed integration only (i.e.
CVS). I added the following clarifications for Subclipse.

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Mylyn_User_Guide#Configuring_the_Syn chronize_view_for_change_sets

Note that not all tools may support both modes. The instructions below
are for the CVS support included with Mylyn. Refer to the Mylyn
integration documentation for your source control plug-in for additional
instructions for Mylyn change set integration, if available.
....
* Subclipse users: note that Subclipse 1.2.3 and later functions as if
in the models mode described below, so the additional configuration step
is not needed.
