GUI Testing in RAP [message #968136] Fri, 02 November 2012 08:09 Go to next message

Hi everyone!

I have two very quick questions:

1. Are there companies out there using RAP for professional, productive applications? (Maybe even one that is transparent enough so we could take a look at their development life cycle?)

2. How do these companies test their RAP GUI?

Context: In the last year or so, our company has been checking out a lot of test frameworks, and between the ones, where even "Hello World" wouldn't work, and the ones that produce more bugs than our code ever could, we started to suspect nobody ever used RAP for productive applications and therefore no one ever used these testing frameworks. Please prove me wrong!

Greetings, S. Schulz

Perhaps this will help: http://eclipse.org/rap/users/

UI Testing issues have been discussed a few times, so it is being done.

I don't think I can follow. These are two topics describing that there might be a RAP testing framework in the future and the other two are complaining about Selenium, which offical release status for RAP is "hack"[1] and which for us doesn't even work reliable on two different PCs, much less on a headless server built necessary for automated testing.

That wiki entry is rather old, i wasn't even aware of it. The last
revision from a RAP team member is from 2009.

I'm sorry that Selenium doesn't work out for you. I never tried it, from
the occasional posts i got the impression that it is used, just with
some issues here and there. Perhaps someone else can give more info on that.

What i can tell is that there exists a working commercial Add-On that
brings WAI-ARIA (accessibility) support to RAP. It was implemented with
the main goal of allowing better support for UI testing in the future,
specifically by GUIdancer[1]. You'll have to ask BREDEX what the status
of that is.

Greetings,
Tim

There is RAP edition of Q7 Eclipse GUI Testing Tool, which plays very well with RAP applications. Basically you can test RAP application in the same way like testing RCP applications with Q7.

See some Demo Videos here:

Q7 for Eclipse Rich Ajax Platform (RAP) Demo I
Q7 for Eclipse Rich Ajax Platform (RAP) Demo II

Please email support@xored.com if interested to know more / evaluate this tool for your RAP application testing.

Kind Regards,
Andrey

Thank you both, we are going to check these two products out - even though we already gave up on Bredex, since it's been over a year since the press release and there wasn't any new information on the topic.

But if someone wants to add another tool to the list, please feel free.
