Drag&Drop in RAP: State of affairs, tutorials/examples? [message #133470] Tue, 19 May 2009 11:33 Go to next message

Folks;

been browsing the newsgroup and the RAP website trying to find infos about
the current state of drag-and-drop in RAP, I just came up with some
newsgroup posts referring to an innoopract.com blog entry which doesn't seem
to be available anymore, along with the RapPlan showing drag-and-drop for
RAP 1.2 as strike-through (done? discarded?).

So: What is the state of drag-and-drop in RAP so far? Are there any
resources (tutorials, sampe code, ...) on how to use what's around already?

Cheers & thanks in advance,
Kristian

I'm sorry to say, but drag and drop is not part of 1.2. It's true, we
once considered this as a possible topic for 1.2, but it didn't make on
the plan.

The only way to implement D&D today is inside a custom widget.

Best Regards,
Ralf

Hi Ralf;

and first off, thanks a bunch for your explanations on that.

Ok, no problem, so I don't have to search any further on that now. :)

I will look into this and see whether this makes possible what we need to
do, although drag-and-drop - reimplementing a TreeViewer widget doesn't seem
a perspective that funny... Let's see. Has someone already done something
like this and any experiences to share?

Thanks again and all the best,
Kristian

Oh, fun is guaranteed with the Tree ;-)

Have you seen Markus' post in the thread "Patching RAP qooxdoo"? If you
figure out how to implement D&D, maybe the mixin approach could be a way
to add this behavior to the tree. Anyway, it still sounds like a lot of
work...

Cheers, Ralf

Looking forward to dealing with this, then... maybe I'll better try finding
another UI concept for doing what we need to do here... :> Is D&D in these
widgets on any official RAP roadmap at the moment? Or, just as an option,
would this qualify as "sponsored / paid RAP development"? Given it's a
rather generic thing, it would seem worthwhile...

I will have a look at the mixin thing, it seems a good way of getting some
things done. Not sure about D&D, however. Let's see... :)

Cheers & thanks again,
Kristian

We are currently in the process of making RAP 1.2 ready for the release
and don't have a clear roadmap for the next release yet. We will start
discussing topics for 1.3 once 1.2 is out.

If you are interested in sponsored development, please contact us at
info at eclipsesource.com.

Best regards,
Ralf
