Hello,

Is there any way to enable spanning (e.g. attributes: namest, nameend, morerows in docbook) in VEX? As far as I know CSS1-2 doesn't support this. I have not found this is handled even for implemented formats. Any idea for future design improvement, if it's really impossible to do it with current version of VEX?

Thank you in advance
Kind Regards Jan Kantor

Hi Jan,

in the current version of Vex, there is no support for spanning.
Spanning depends on the table model which is used. CSS gives us only a
minimum of information about the table model. Therefor we are planning
to implement an extensible mechanism to be able to add rich support for
arbitrary table models. This mechanism will also have support for spanning.

Best Regards,

Florian

Hello Florian,

Thank you for your reply. Extensible mechanism? Sounds interesting. Will you add some special non-w3c CSS properties or it might be totally new table layout descriptive way standing beside or replacing current batik css parser? What's your current vision when you plan to tart implement this?

Thank you in advance
Kind Regards Jan Kantor

Hi Jan,

at the moment we have only a vague picture of how extensible table
support could be implemented and we are open for suggestions.

Tables and table models can be very complex, so I think we have to
provide some kind of API and the possibility to contribute not only
configuration but also special actions and handlers for a table model.
We might provide some extension points (or whatever is used for this
kind of extensibility in the near future).

So please do not hesitate to provide your ideas about this topic!
