Profiling Web Application - I'm confused [message #128487] Tue, 15 April 2008 00:50 Go to next message

Hi,

I'm trying to profile a local web application (running on tomcat). I'm
confused if I need the agent controller - I've tried it with and without
it and no luck. When I right click the server and select Profile I get a
message that Tomcat can't start and:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not find agent library on the library path or in the local
directory: JPIBootLoader

I searched these forums and this comes up a few places but I can't come to
a conclusion on what the solution is... is there any document that
describes what needs to be done to profile a local web application (the
simplest way possible).

Thanks.

I have had the same problem. You need to actually download the TPTP kit,
and unpack it in the eclipse directory. (I used the TPTP all in one package
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/tptp/4.4 .1/TPTP-4.4.1/tptp.runtime.allInOne.win32.win32.x86-TPTP-4.4 .1.zip)
If you try to install TPTP _just_ from the built-in software update, it
seems you won't get all the parts needed (the agent in particular). Once I
downloaded the complete TPTP kit, and unpacked it as directed, the profiling
on the local tomcat instance worked just fine for execution analysis.
(although I still can't seem to get ARM working, but that is another post).

Hope this helps - I searched with google for this exact same problem, and
could not find a reference for it anywhere - hopefully this will get indexed
and help others who have this problem.
