Mobile phones support (Symbian) [message #122276] Mon, 23 February 2009 11:13 Go to next message

Hi,

it seems Qooxdoo is unable to run at least on Symbian based mobile
phones (E51). And it doesn't seems to be question of free memory. Only
initial blue gradient screen appears. In OperaMini it gave me the same
results.

Is there anybody successful with running RAP/RWT/Qooxdoo application on
Symbian mobile phones?

Thanks

Jiri

PS: I've used latest rap-1.1.2-SR2-target-3.4 with qooxdoo 0.7.4

Hi Jiri,

though I haven't it tried myself, this looks like a JavaScript
error. Can you get any further information (e.g. from an error log
in OperaMini)?

Cheers,
Rüdiger

Hi Jiri

We haven't run it on Symbian, but we did on Windows CE and WM. No luck
with Opera 8.5 on those devices (although this is six months ago).

See

Cheers

Hi,

unfortunately I didn't find a way how to get these information.
Anyway it seems OperaMini has really limited Ajax support - see
http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/javascript-support-in-ope ra-mini-4/ .

Overall it seems like a browser problem, because there is the same
behaviour while running GWT-ext application for example. Maybe it can be
solved with some qooxdoo workaround or we can wait for next browser
generation (Nokia is working on some Webkit based browser for Symbian).

Regards

Jiri

Hi Paul,

thanks for the link. It seems it works good on Windows based mobile
devices where better equipped browsers are used. On current generation
of Symbian or J2ME browsers Qooxdoo workarround will be needed.

Regards

Jiri

Jiri,

if you have an actual use case for OperaMini, you could ask on the
qooxdoo mailing-list or open a bug there. I would be glad to
integrate a version of qooxdoo that runs on mobile devices

Cheers,
Rüdiger

Hi Rüdiger,

I've created Bug in Qooxdoo Bugzilla
(http://bugzilla.qooxdoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2033) for this. I've also
done compatibility check with Android standard browser and it works fine
(although it loads RAP page quite long). Nevertheless Opera Mini running
on Android has the same problems as on Symbian phone. So there is quite
no doubt that the limitations are on the browser side, not on the OS side.

Regards

Jiri
