In most of the examples that I reffered, file based resource is used to create the diagram editor.

However, is it possible to create the diagram without using the file based resource?
If yes any idea how this can be achieved?

Eclipse editors rely much on a file in the background and also the Graphiti
framework needs such a file, e.g. for the change notification mechanism
triggering diagram updates...

So, I would suggest to come up with a kind of virtual file that does not
exist on harddisk but emulates such a file for Eclipse.
