Eclipse is getting slower as it upgrades. It is much slower than 5 years ago even though it doesn't have better features. What is worse, there are tons of bugs in fundamental features like copy & paste or undo & redo.

I think the direction of eclipse is wrong. Its features were good enough since Europa. Please make eclipse faster and stable. No more features or changes. People needs IDE that works.

Which platform are you on? Are you talking about Eclipse 4.2 or 3.8?
I've not had any problems with copy & paste or redo. In which editors
do you have such problems?

4.2 on Mac. Previous versions don't have such bugs.

Have you tried 3.8 to see it that performs better? To which bugs do you
refer specifically? You're sure bugzilla reports are open for them?

There've been some issues with the ADT plugin regarding copy and paste and ADT devs are working on it IIRC. Maybe this is your case.

Also 3.8 should theoretically perform better and not very differently from previous releases. 4.x performance issues will be addressed in the second service release 4.2.2.

Well the great thing about Eclipse being an "open source" community is that anyone is able to participate. So if you are experiencing troubles, why don't you look to see if there is anything you are able to contribute.

Also, if we are going to fix anything, we need to know what to fix. Even if you find things that just arent quite right, submit a bug (like Bug 388513). How are we supposed to fix that which is broken from "is getting slower."

JD

btw- In case you were concerned, we are well aware of the performance problems and are working to find the cause.

I'm not complaining about some bugs. It's about direction and decision. I'm not saying just eclipse should be faster or please fix the bugs. Of course there are lots of programmers who contribute to eclipse. However their power is not infinite. We have to focus on the real problem. Yeah, eclipse Indigo is not so slow as Juno, but it is also slow. Slower than any other major Java IDE. IDEA is much faster than eclipse. Eclipse 3.7 on Quad core 2.7GHz CPU runs slower than Eclipse 2.x on Pentium III 1.0GHz. Is that normal?

Every eclipse users know that the version up of eclipse means slower eclipse. Don't say that please, 3.8 or 3.7 is fast enough. That's not true.

I think eclipse guys are avoiding the truth. Many Java programmers are leaving eclipse. Try google "eclipse slow", "I hate eclipse", "eclipse sucks".

Admit that. Eclipse is not reliable, and is not fast enough to use.

No one is avoiding the truth when you are told that the performance issues are acknowledged and are to be addressed.

If it's about direction than your suggestion to leave Eclipse as it was in Europa's time doesn't make sense.

The 4.x stream is two months old (in official use), the 3.x has lots of years of performance and improvements and it went to a point that the growing complexity was impossible to maintain with the resources available. The 4.x was envisioned and turned out to be really easy to maintain and fix. This came with a performance impact (as fed back from the community) that will be addressed as I said starting with the second (ever) 4.x SR.

In OS the rule is simple: those who committ, decide. Those who committ listen to and aggregate the community concerns(as you are being patiently listened now by two committers and a contributor) before deciding, but still they decide.

Now if your best interest is for Eclipse to be better, then provide some details what doesn't work for you specifically and ideally submit some related bugs on Platform/UI. General (already acknowledged) performance remarks won't help Eclipse to be better, the final goal of us folks hanging around the forums.
