Sometimes when I perform a simple operation on Eclipse it goes into a cycle of processing (I have no idea what). It isn't, exactly, frozen but it becomes very unresponsive for minutes at a time. For example on a search or asking for the local history. I know some of this is related to the size of the project but in the past with eclipse pre 4 I never had these problems. It is getting to be so that I will have to revert to an older version of Eclipse (or another IDE I suppose) in order to keep working.

We need a vm dump when this happens.

You can give 3.8 a spin and if it happens there as well then it has
nothing to do with Eclipse 4 but e.g. JDT.

FWIW: I've noticed some huge slowdowns with EGit on big repositories, particularly when viewing and selecting commits in a file history view.
