I am currently running 64-bit ubuntu and 64-bit Oracle Java 7. The current version of EPF (1.5.4?) seems to require 32-bit.

I am hoping that there will be a version that will allow for use in my environment. Many Linux users have migrated to 64-bit environments and frankly, I would prefer to stay there.

Another alternative might be to install EPF as plugins into my existing Eclipse environment (Indigo 64-bit Linux), but I'm not sure that's possible.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated - I would like to get to know this program, since it looks like it will fill a need.

Same here. I looked into building my own, but, frankly, it seemed like a lot of work with an uncertain outcome (in particular the dependencies to the native html rendering engine make me worry that I get the thing to compile, but the editors being unusable).

Is the EPF build even automated? I have not seen it at https://hudson.eclipse.org/hudson/

Just wondering - as time passes, and almost all machines have >3GB, I see fewer and fewer 32bit Linux machines. A 64bit built would be greatly appreciated.

So we're now another year down the road and Linux continues to move on. Firefox has 64-bit version for Linux - but not for Windows. Ubuntu is now at 14.04. As far as I know, LibreOffice is 64-bit. I think there is a recently released version of RedHat Linux that is 64-bit. We are still waiting for someone to let us know when we will be able to run EPF on 64-bit Linux. I won't install 32-bit Linux just to run EPF. Even Windows applications are slowly migrating to 64-bit. So when do we think there will be a 64-bit version of EPF?

We are now an ADDITIONAL 4 -1/2 years down the road. Is there any prospect that there will be a 64-bit version of EPF to run on 64-bit Java?

Unless someone steps up to do this, it won't happen any time soon. However, I have gotten Rational Method Composer working on 64 bit SUSE, so I assume EPF Composer will also work on the same platform. I then tried various workarounds to get it working on Ubuntu 64 - but was not successful. I imagine that someone with more technical know-how than I could compare the SUSE and Ubuntu environments and figure out how to get this working on Ubuntu 64.
Volunteers anyone?

Hi all,

I got it to work by running the Windows version with CrossOver (commercial counterpart of wine). To me, this is better than anything else I found so far. Here are the installation instructions:

For those not willing to spent €50 for CrossOver, maybe someone will explore using wine instead.

The solution that worked for me was:

1. get a 32 bits java VM (download form otn.oracle.com)
2. adjust epf-composer/epf.ini to use it. Adding the following two lines starting epf.ini

-vm
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-oracle-1.7.0.79/jre/bin/java

How did you solved the rich test editing? Using a recent xulrunner? downloading an ancient Firefox version?
