I have a nutritional application that deals with biometrics (height, weight, age), times (hours, days) and energy (calorie, joule) and power (watt, kcal/24h) and performs simple calculations with them.

neither UOMo no jscience 5.0 seams to be ready at the moment.
so I'm thinking to use jscience 4.3 and later migrate to the new Unit-API

Would you agree with this strategy? My project budget is small.
I need to minimize development costs here.

Simple calculations. There are some, you can do with UOMo already. If
anything is missing, please create tickets in Bugzilla with your
requirements.
I just did an overview of various DSLs with type-safe arithmetics and Unit
support via JScience and/or Unit-API/UOMo.

In most cases, such a DSL can use either of them and also have UOMo as a
drop-in replacement for JScience, so starting to use JScience 4.3
now if it meets your requirements and considering an UOMo migration e.g.
once it leaves Incubation seems like a good approach.

Hi Werner:

Following up on this topic. I have been testing the JScience 4.3 version for several months, with an eye for more serious deployment possibly early next year.

Since JSR 275 seems not to have been approved, is it still valid to use the javax.* package name used in much of the JScience implementation? If not, then I don't quite understand your comment above regarding "dropping in" the UoMo implementation (when ready) over the application that might currently be using JScience 4.3. Perhaps I took you too literally.

Sorry for the earlier ping. I took a look at both source codes, and I think I get it. The original Measure and Measurable concepts from the 275-based version seems obsoleted.

Sorry for the late reply, the closest in UOMo would be IMeasure, which is
the "Measurement Interface" replacing what Measurable once tried to
archieve.

A "nightly" branch of Unit-API contains a "Measurement" interface inspired
by the same type in OSGi Measurement bundle, but that is mainly a POC for
discussion with future Java M2M and IoT standards around the SensorWeb.
If those are accepted and introduced as Java standards for Sensors by the
JCP, then future versions of UOMo and (where it gets upgraded) JScience
should both implement it, but this is entirely up to an Expert Group yet to
be formed. We need to wait for an Oracle JSR for low level Sensor readings
before we could get the ball rolling. If you are interested, please mention
