Dear UML2 Tools component maintainers.
Could you please let the community know wheather to expect UML2 Tools integration build for Eclipse Juno and co-developed components.
The problem with 2011's UML2 Tools integration build is that it doesn't work anymore with latest releases of MDT UML2 and MDT OCL components. This is due to the fact that the major version number was changed for some MDT features/plugins included in UML2 and OCL components such that UML2 Tools dependencies are no longer satisfied.

Felix,

I'm not sure anyone is working on this anymore. I think it's likely
better to rely on Papyrus.

Hi,

but is papyrus still maintained? The download page only lists old versions. In my opinion, Eclipse indigo with UML2 tools is good at the moment and better than papyrus.

Hi

Papyrus is very much maintained (800 commits in the last 3 months). It
is perhaps the Modeling project with the largest number of active
committers (11). See
http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project.php?id=modeling.mdt.papyrus.

UML2Tools has 0 commits and 0 committers active in the last three months.

Install it from the Modeling Discovery Wizard, or just Install New
Software ...

If you want the sources you'll have to figure out the SVN structure.

Raise a Bugzilla about Downloads accessibility.

Hi,

thanks for this info. Do you know the background why UML2 Tools is not developed any further? Because I thought it is also the basic for the Rational Tools of IBM.

Does Papyrus use Eclipse UML2? Or is it an own implementation of UML? Because Eclipse UML2 looks very good. However, the models created with papyrus are a papyrus specific files not ending with ".uml".

Sorry forget my last post. It is only the diagram that is specific. There is a UML-file.

I think that, as a result of acquisitions, IBM has at least three
different UML tools with varying technologies. Some of them use MDT/UML2
and GMF Runtime. I don't think that any of them use UML2 Tools or Papyrus.

UML2 Tools was an exemplary demonstration of GMF Tools developed by
committers almost entirely funded by Borland. Unfortunately when Borland
'lost interest' in modeling, a number of Eclipse projects were left
searching for new supporters. Extended UML functionality was reserved
for a Borland proprietary product; just the same as IBM's extended UML
functionality is reserved for IBM's proprietary product(s).

I understand that with UML2 Tools supported by committers from just one
company, the boundary between Open Source collaboration and proprietary
support was a little unclear and so the Papyrus team went their own way.

UML2 Tools may have been better, but Eclipse enthusiasts should
endeavour to support the genuinely Open Source Papyrus development that
may finally provide quality UML graphical editing within Eclipse.
