Hello All,

When I am trying to render birt report using jsf4birt the export to pdf option is not available. Please suggest me feasible solution for proving the export to pdf option using birt and jsf4birt.

Does your runtime have a plugins folder or are you using the POJO
runtime? If you have a plugins folder does it contain the pdf emitter?

Hi Jason,

My project is having a plugins folder and the hierarchy is follows :

WebContent->WEB-INF->platform->plugins->
- org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.pdf_2.5.1.v20090821.jar
- org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.pdf.config_2.5.1.v20090917.jar

Do I need to add any other jars or make any configurational changes to provide export to pdf option?

I am not that familiar with jsf4birt, did you download the demo app and
look at it? I think it has an example for pdf.

If you have the viewer deployed it should be in toolbar.

Hi Jason,

As per www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/deploy/viewerSetup.php it is required to deploy the WebViewerExample on the tomcat server.

But doing that I am unable to get the export to pdf,xls option.

My questions are :

1. If I want to add viewer in my project what configrational settings are required?
2. I have seen many posts where it is mentioned to configure the emitters to have the export options. How can we configure emitters?

Request you to help on my above mentioned concerns. Thanks in advance !!

If you deployed the viewer the export options should already be
available without any configuration. When you say add the viewer to
your project can you elaborate a bit? Are you using WTP?

Hi Jason,

I placed the WebViewerExample in the webapps folder of Tomcat server but still the export to pdf option was not available for my sample module.

Then I tried working with the birt.war in "birt-runtime-3_7_2" and added my reports and jsp into it then the export to pdf/xls options were available.

Though it was working there were some errors with the pre-bundled web-template.xml.

1. a. web-template.xml
<web-app xmlns="//java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee"
version="2.4"
xmlns:xsi="//www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="//java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee //java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd">

Please Note : The http: part is removed in my above post.. since I am not allowed to post links i have reomved the http part....

Here I was getting "cvc-complex-type.2.3: Element 'web-app' cannot have character [children], because the type's content type is element-only" error

b. @generated@

"cvc-complex-type.2.3: Element 'web-app' cannot have character [children], because the type's content type is element-only"

2. Second error was in the webcontent/birt/ajax/utility folder with BirtUtility.js

"Internal validation error java.lang.NullPointerException at org.eclipse.wst.jsdt.internal.compiler.lookup.CompilationUnitBinding.sourceMethod(CompilationUnitBinding.java:83)"

Can you please guide with the above errors....

Can you list the process I would need to go through to reproduce your error?

I just imported the birt.war in my eclipse ide (Version: Indigo Service Release 2
Build id: 20120216-1857). Birt.war I took from "birt-runtime-3_7_2" folder.

And then I copied my reports in that module and used jsp to render them in page.

<birt:viewer id="birtViewer" reportDesign="TopNPercent.rptdesign"
pattern="frameset"
height="450"
width="700"
format="html">

The graph was rendered in the jsp but while deploying the module on tomcat version 6, every time compilation error was reported for the above mentioned files.

Moreover that chart was linked with another chart for providing drill down functionality, even that was not working when the report was rendered in jsp.

Can you try to use the allinone birt designer
http://download.eclipse.org/birt/downloads/
and then download the BIRT Web Tools Integration
from this link:
http://download.eclipse.org/birt/downloads/build.php?build=R-R1-3_7_2-201202141408

And then do a dynamic web project that includes Birt Reporting Web
Project as described in this link.
http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/forum/index.php/topic/18337-installing-birt-wtp-integration-sdk-2-5-1-in-eclipse-reporting-galileo-2-5-1/page__s__4fa567b4dd6fd90f6987b617252b7b72
