Hi everybody,
I am testing ARM services, especially Application Response Measurement
Analisys against an application server (Tomcat 5.5). I am following this
tutorial:

in the innermost "sample" directory
After creating the project and correcting the references to eclipse
plugins to the proper version, I started profiling.
Therefore, I clicked on Profile > Open Profile Dialog > Apache Tomcat >
added
-DArm40.ArmTransactionFactory=org.eclipse.tptp.trace.arm.int ernal.transaction.ArmTransactionFactoryImpl
-DArm40.ArmTranReportFactory=org.eclipse.tptp.trace.arm.inte rnal.tranreport.ArmReportFactoryImpl
-DArm40.ArmMetricFactory=org.eclipse.tptp.trace.arm.internal .metric.ArmMetricFactoryImpl
to VM arguments > Profile.
When the profile on server dialog appeared, I chose "Application Response
Measurement Analisys", then I selected a probe amongst "Generic Probe" or
"Servlet Probe" (I tried more than once) and I let the default filter
(none for "Generic Probe", only doGet and doPost allowed for "Servlet
Probe"). After that, I selected "Instrument Collector" and I set a filter
here: I included all the packages declared in the web-app and I excluded
all the rest. In the end, I actually started the profiling session. The
three icons representing the host, the agent and the service appeared as
expected and the agent was ready to profile.
I clicked on the three links in the web-app home page more than once to
collect some data. After that, I clicked on "Collect Object References",
then I stopped the profiler. I tried to open the results, both by
double-clicking on them (UML2 trace interactions) and right-clicking and
choosing "Execution Statistics". The window that usually appears when
there's no execution info available was opened.
There is surely something stupid that I am missing and that the tutorial
does not show explicitly: it seems that nobody else experienced such a
problem and I did not find something similar on Google, either.

Hi Richard,
some of the jars you suggested were missing in the classpath:
armAspects.jar
armProbes.jar
armModel.jar
because I added only the jars the tutorial mentioned (slide 8/35).
Furthermore, I could not find
hlcore101.jar
in Eclipse subdirectories, whereas I had already added a jar similarly
named:
hlcbe101.jar
I also googled for "hlcore101.jar", but I obtained no (zero!) result.
Hoping you had meant "hlcbe101.jar", I retried more than once with the
new configuration, but still no data is available.

I'm sorry for the wrong file name. Yes, it's hlcbe101.jar, not
hlcore101.jar.
Still no data available? Is there any exceptions thrown during profiling?

Hi Richard,
I retried to test ARM, but there is still no data available to display.
No exception window is showed during the profiling session, therefore I
looked for any hs_error* and .log file created during that session.
There wasn't any, though.
The only thing I can add is that eclipse runs on a JVM 1.6.0_02 (the
default java command), whereas AC, IAC and the web-app use JVM 1.5.0_12.

Hi Alessandro,
What did you set in the filters of Instrument Collector? Did you include
all your classes in the appropriate INCLUDE rules? And the INCLUDE rules
should be in front of EXCLUDE rules.

Hi Richard,
I checked my configuration and I found my error. The package which
contains the servlets is "eclipseworld", whereas the package specified
in the filter was "eclipsworld.*". Deleting the dot let the profiler
work with the correct output.
