I just tried enabling the 'hierarchical branch layout' toggle in the Git Reopsitories view and it doesn't seem to be doing anything: toggling and un-toggling changes nothing in the view. Is it supposed to show the sub-branch structure ? That would be handy.

EGit 2.0.0.201204200909

If you have branches that contain a "/" in their name (like
"topic/bug-1234", "topic/bug-5678") it toggles between a flat, list-like
presentation and a hierarchical tree-like one.
