Hi guys,

I just want to give some feedback - in the last days I have evaluated OSEE
for using it by one of our customer. You have a great product with many
useful features, but I decide to use our own solution, because of lack of
documentation (which I can accept for the new Eclipse project) and because
I didn't get any answers on my questions in the news portal. So I don't
have a good feeling, that I can customize OSEE to the customer's needs and
can get support from the project committers.

You have to invest more time in community support - that is very important
for a new project and helps to set up the communication with (potential)
users of the project.

regards,
Alexander

Alexander,

We have been working on adding additional documentation including for the
area that you inquired about, namely the OSEE data model. The data model
documentation is in-work but you can see at
http://www.eclipse.org/osee/documentation/architecture/data_ model.php. I
regret that we didn’t have the documentation in place at the time you
needed, but we are adding documentation to address your questions which
will hopefully be of use to you in the future. We will be provide a
hands-on tutorial session
https://www.eclipsecon.org/submissions/2009/view_talk.php?id =680 at
EclipseCon 2009 that will walk you through the configuration, usage, and
extension of OSEE. If you are coming to EclipseCon, this would answer
many of your questions.

Regards,
Ryan

Thanks,
Ryan Brooks

I have to agree with Alexander.

I heard about OSEE at a conference in Stuttgart a couple of weeks ago. I
got excited about the prospects. But I have no idea how to evaluate the
actual potential of the project.

And honestly: Given the current economical situation it will be hard to
come to California to learn more about OSEE! It shouldn't be to difficult
to get the information up on the Eclispe project page? That's what I
expect from an Eclipse project! You must have documentation inside your
organization that you could use? Just plain text would be good - we are
not looking for product-type documnetation!

I am particularly interested in defining new data models and
defining/customizing workflows for systems engineering environments.

So any help would be welcome!

K.

Alexander:

Another area that we are working to improve and document is the
configuration of workflows for the Action Tracking System (ATS). We
have recently had the opportunity to integrate a graphical GEF workflow
configuration editor that will make it easier to configure and modify an
ATS workflow. You can see a preview of it at
http://www.eclipse.org/osee/documentation/ats/ATS.htm#sectio n8.4.1

We have posted some more information about this in the ATS section at
http://www.eclipse.org/osee/documentation/index.php.

In addition, we have posted some of the help files for ATS to enable the
community to learn a little more about ATS and how it's configured.
This is also available off the above page or at
http://www.eclipse.org/osee/documentation/ats/ATS.htm.

And last, as part of the 0.6.0 release, we have added some wizards and
examples that will allow for easier configuration of ATS. These steps
are also provided off the above link or at
http://www.eclipse.org/osee/documentation/ats/atsConfigurati on.php.

As we try to provide the community with the documentation support they
need to make use of OSEE, we would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Don
