Hi All,

As a Newbie I've tried to install the CDT-Toolchain under Galileo
(installed from Ubuntu Repsitory) and get the error:

!MESSAGE The artifact file for
osgi.bundle,org.eclipse.cvs,1.0.400.v201002111343 was not found.

Under 'work with' i added the entry:

CDT - http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/galileo

Error in detail:

You can try to install the latest version of Eclipse and CDT (e.g. from here www.eclipse.org/downloads).

Thanks for replying,

but i don't want to mess up my system with that 'updatemania'.
I need this laptop with the running Kubuntu Lycid Lynx all the time and
will only use 'official' repositories for Lucid Lynx; sorry.

I tried on another machine (also with Kubuntu Lucid Lynx) to install
Helios from Source with the AVR-Eclipse Plugin (avr-gcc Toolchain) and
got it running quite well ('Hello World'-Test). But I had some questions
during the installation:
* What installation Folder should i use? '/opt', or '/usr/local' or the
home-Folder ?
* The was a problem reported that plugins won't work well because of
wrong permissions of the installation folder
* There are many -different- installation faqs: I can't decide, which of
them i should use, f.e. :
(1)- http://wiki.eclipse.org/CDT/User/FAQ
(2)- http://max.berger.name/howto/cdt/
(3)- http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Eclipse
(4)- http://wiki.ubuntu-forum.de/index.php/Eclipse
(5)- http://www.heise.de/ct/projekte/machmit/ctbot/wiki/
EclipseInstallation
Even on the other system, where i got helios running i have trouble with
the 'usbprog' to programm my AVR-Hardware.
I had to add a 'rules'-File for my usb-Hardware; maybe there is still a
problem with the installation-paths?

Thanks for any advice

Update:
I got Eclipse running (at least the 'Hello World'-Example-).
The problem was, that in the repos for lucid lynx were missing
dependancies and i installed only a minimal version of eclipse as
platform. I wanted to use the eclipse addon-mechanism to load the
toolchains later (cdt, avr-gcc)

If you insist on using the repositories, then you will need to utilize
the Ubuntu support mechanisms. The maintainers of the Ubuntu packages
aren't part of Eclipse. The Eclipse forums support the version of
Eclipse that is available from the eclipse.org site.

There is no real reason not to use the version on the eclipse.org site.
It will not interfere with the Ubuntu update mechanism. The
eclipse.org distribution mechanism is via a tar/zip file. You extract
the file where ever you wish on your system. It will not corrupt any of
the other packages you have installed.

I am using Ubuntu too and I prefer to use only packages from the official repositories too. However, I have made an exception for Eclipse because its version in Ubuntu repository is too old and installation from eclipse.org is too simple (just unpacking the archive). I didn't encounter any problems with such configuration.

It's just the only thing, that is running ;-(
I can't get the avr-gcc toolchain integrated, can't see the AVR Device-
Explorer...

I deinstalled all the stuff of the former toolchain, downloaded a new
tarball (for Galileo) from AVRFreaks and installed it as mentioned below
to /usr/local/avr.

I extended the Path, so that it is now:

muelux@muelux-LT6fA:/$ echo $PATH$
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/
usr/local/avr/bin$

But, if i start a Project with Poperties 'avr-toolchain' it has
unresolved externals for C-Standard-Definitions.

I've also a huge ammount of installed Options (about 400MB); i just
wanted to compile a few bytes in C for the avr microcontroller.
How can i get the minimum-cdt-eclipse with the avr-toolchain running ?

Download/ Install Instructions from AVRFreaks:
AVR-GCC .deb packages
Download your chosen .deb file (probably the latest) from the list below.
Install it using the 'dpkg -i <chosen.deb>'
The tools will be installed in /usr/local/avr with the commands in /usr/
local/avr/bin
That directory is not automatically added to the PATH so to use the
package after installation
use 'export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/avr/bin' or add a command to achieve
this permanently to your bash profile
