After checking out project "org.eclipse.cosmos.dc.sample.jpa" I get tons
of errors due to misc. "import javax.persistance.<xyz>" classes that
can't be resolved. Where is this javax.persistance stuff supposed to
come from?

I get the same errors when I load that project. I'm told that the
project is obsolete. I am checking with the person who contributed that
project to see if it can be removed from the repository to avoid confusion.

I have confirmed that we no longer use javax.persistence in COSMOS. The
defect https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=209839 has been
opened to remove this sample from CVS.

OK - I'll simply delete that project then. Thanks for your
"investigation efforts" in clarifying this.
Cheers,
Michael
