I've learnt from one of the messages of your forums that the version of Eclipse coming from the Eclipse site should be preferred over the one coming from the Ubuntu (or other linux distribution). Well, I downloaded the tar.gz file, but I don't know what to do with this package, because it has no Makefile, or installation file. Could you give me any advice?

Just explode it anywhere you like and use it. It isn't built nor is it
"installed" in the Windows sense. If you'd like more help, try perusing:
