I went quickly through your proposel. I would like to add some comments
comming from our current projects with big banks.

The main problem these companies face is, that people who define the
services (hoping that all of that results in a Service Oriented
Architecture...) concentrate on technical platforms, rather than
the concept of a service.

Just using modeling to define a service is the big first step for them.

In your proposal, you bridge directly from ECore to a specific technical
platform for services, e.g. WebServices.
You could introduce one abstraction level between ECore and WebServices,
where those abstractions are done which are not specific to WebServices,
and then in a second step you match to WebServices.

As a consequence, your project would provide both best practices to
define services with modeling (captured by the intermediate abstraction
level I proposed) and a mapping to WebServices.

Like this you would at least double your audience. People at our client
invested in a Cobol/XML based service infrastructure. They did
WebServices binding in some way. But they lack guidance for best
practice in using modeling to define services.

PS: I do not propose you try to comply with any forthcoming industry
standard/Profile for SOA, but that you split the abstractions you will
build anyhow in these two levels. Later, people can then start to
integrate the WebService independent part of your project with such

mentiones a forthcomming Profile for services...

This may be interesting. And the Servus project a good place to maintain
the corresponding MOF Model.

Thought you might be interested in Apache Woden [1]. We've developed a
WSDL 2.0 model and parser (with incomplete validation at the moment). You
may be able to take the API, structure or at least some lessons we've
learned about WSDL 2.0 from the project.

As well, I'd encourage you to provide feedback about WSDL 2.0 on the W3C
ws-desc mailing list [2]. This list is monitored and feedback about the
spec, including problems, inconsistencies, etc., will be addressed. As
well, the W3C has a WSDL 2.0 test suite that should be useful when
building your model [3].

I went quickly through your proposel. I would like to add some comments
comming from our current projects with big banks.

The main problem these companies face is, that people who define the
services (hoping that all of that results in a Service Oriented
Architecture...) concentrate on technical platforms, rather than
the concept of a service.

Just using modeling to define a service is the big first step for them.

In your proposal, you bridge directly from ECore to a specific technical
platform for services, e.g. WebServices.
You could introduce one abstraction level between ECore and WebServices,
where those abstractions are done which are not specific to WebServices,
and then in a second step you match to WebServices.

As a consequence, your project would provide both best practices to
define services with modeling (captured by the intermediate abstraction
level I proposed) and a mapping to WebServices.

Like this you would at least double your audience. People at our client
invested in a Cobol/XML based service infrastructure. They did
WebServices binding in some way. But they lack guidance for best
practice in using modeling to define services.

PS: I do not propose you try to comply with any forthcoming industry
standard/Profile for SOA, but that you split the abstractions you will
build anyhow in these two levels. Later, people can then start to
integrate the WebService independent part of your project with such

This may be interesting. And the Servus project a good place to maintain
the corresponding MOF Model.

Thought you might be interested in Apache Woden [1]. We've developed a
WSDL 2.0 model and parser (with incomplete validation at the moment). You
may be able to take the API, structure or at least some lessons we've
learned about WSDL 2.0 from the project.

As well, I'd encourage you to provide feedback about WSDL 2.0 on the W3C
ws-desc mailing list [2]. This list is monitored and feedback about the
spec, including problems, inconsistencies, etc., will be addressed. As
well, the W3C has a WSDL 2.0 test suite that should be useful when
building your model [3].
