Dear friends,

I met a strange problem.

We have a RCP product based on Birt Designer and we have NLS support. I set the locale to Simple Chinese. I use the "preview as HTML" option to preview a birt report. The url issued to birt viewer is as below;

//127.0.0.1:62177/viewer/preview?__report=C%3A%5CUsers%5Cuser%5CDesktop%5Crky%5Cbackup.rptdesign&__format=html&__svg=false&__locale=%E4%B8%AD%E6%96%87+%28%E4%B8%AD%E5%9B%BD%29&__timezone=America%2FChicago&__masterpage=true&__rtl=false&__cubememsize=10&__resourceFolder=C%3A%5CUsers%5Cuser%5CDesktop%5Crky&__dpi=96&-1652979745

But I could see nothing just with a white panel. So, I tried to see the source and the HTML content is shown in notepad, everything is ok.

I copied the url to IE8(WIN 7, Virtual Machine) and found the same problem. But I tried to see the source content and found the messy code(the original Chinese Character) which destroied the HTML structure. I think this is the reason why the page is blank. But if I copy the url to firefox, the page can be displayed correctly.
The IE8 can display other Chinese page well.

the source content from IE8

I feel confused about this problem. If I installed the product in a physical machine(WIN7 IE8), everything works ok. Could you please give some clue on this? Is there any configuration I can set in IE8? Is this an encoding problem?

How are you setting the locale? In the preview preferences?
What version of BIRT is the product based on?

I changed the locale on the OS. The birt designer version is 2.6.1.

When you have the designer open, select Window->preference->Report
Design->Preview. Check the locale setting.

I checked that the locale is China. If I check to use the external browser, it will open firefox and the page is displayed well.

The problem was resolved. In IE8, View->Encoding->Unicode(UTF-8). Thanks.
