Make sure you're running with JDK 5 or 6, 64 or 32 bit as appropriate.

Code assist still seems to need a bit of polishing.

I have come across some situations when code assist doesn't work in some
situations. It could be that one of these situations applies to you. I
have raised a few bug reports about them.

There is something definitely iffy about code completion in this bug,
and this sounds like it could apply to you. Try typing in a few more
characters of something that you know should complete and see if it then
works:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=260952

I've also raised another couple about code assist, although these are
more specific and may not apply:

I have just upgraded from 3.5 to Helios 3.6 on Fedora 13 and now have this as well. There are no messages in any logs as far as I can see and I have changed the permossions on the eclipse install directory to +rw although I never needed to do this before, but it hasn't helped.

If I sign on as root, I don't have the same problem. I am thinking of installing in my home directory instead of /opt/.. but a shared install in /opt always worked before.

For some reason I just got a popup message saying I needed to reconfigure my Content Assist preferences.

I went to Windows/Preferences/Java/Editor/Content Assist/Advanced and pressed "Restore Defaults". All works now. For some reason the "Java Proposals" was unchecked. Smile

This worked for me. Somehow the Java proposals was turned off. In addition I also setup my JDK properly. Not sure if this would cause it to turn off since these options were working fine in 3.5.
