I was not able to find a design document or planning timetable that would answer this simple question:

Does LinuxTools support the CTF (Common Trace Format)? LTTng 2.0 produces traces in this format now.

More broadly, does LinuxTools support LTTng 2.0? If not, when will it?

Lucky you.

We are about to integrate a CTF parser and an LTTng 2.0 adapter. This CTF lib is written entirely in Java i.e. no C lib to wrap with JNI as in the legacy LTTng format. I personally can't wait.

One of the 'exciting' new features of LTTng 2.0 is that events don't have exactly the same structure (payload) and are not produced in the same sequence as before. This has an impact on the existing State System and we still need to do some work to properly populate the kernel-specific analysis views (Control Flow, Resources, ...). Also, a new, more versatile State System in under way.

The upcoming steps (on that front) are:
- Iron out the last glitches in CTF lib + LTTng adapters
- Complete the integration of the new persistent State System
- CQ these contributions (by not-yet-committers)
- Complete the adaptation of the legacy LTTng views to the new SS + CTF

We expect to deliver all this for Juno. The Linux Tools LTTng plan will be published shortly (sometime next week).

Regards,
/fc

Has the Linux Tools LTTng plan, including support for CTF, been published yet?

Many thanks,

Mike.

Hi,

The Linux Tools project was updated (see http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project-plan.php?projectid=technology.linux-distros, section 'Integrate Linux tracing functionality within Eclipse'). You will also find links to the corresponding bugs.

Best Regards,
/fc
