Is it to possible to programmatically set a different default palette layout?

Joao,

it should be possible but only by using Graphiti internal classes (we
refactored the editor API for the Juno release to enable such usecases).
Have a look into DiagramEditorInternal, the method createPaletteRoot
triggers the creation of the palette.
