PDT-Eclipse keeps forgetting its Views and Perspectives [message #87772] Sat, 27 December 2008 16:14 Go to next message

Hello,

my Eclipse installation which I only use for PDT keeps forgetting all my
configured Perspectives and Views all the time. Nearly (but not) every
time I launch Eclipse it comes up with the "Resource" Perspective, and
doesnt even show "PHP" and "PHP Debugging" in the quick launcher,
allthough I havent been using any other perspectives since the last time
quitting.

I makes no difference if Eclipse is shut down correctly or not.

I also have another issue with preferences that Eclipse likes to forget
about: the default browser for debugging switches to "external broswser:
camino" seemingly every second time I start. In all cases the "internal
browser" checkbox is disabled, and will only be available after an
Eclipse restart.

I have tried deleting (moving) the .metadata folder from the workspace
root and reconfigured all my prefs, but both bugs kept appearing after
quitting and launching again.

Thank you for any hint that could leed to a solution for this utterly
anoying issues.

Version infos:
- Eclipse Platform Version: 3.4.1 Build id: M20080911-1700,
downloaded thru "all-in-one-build" from
http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/downloads/
- Mac OS X 10.5.5 Intel
- java version "1.5.0_16"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
1.5.0_16-b06-284)
- Update Software shows "nothing to update"

This sounds like there are permission issues on where your workspace is
saving data or permissions from the user that is running eclipse.

We had a similiar question in the #pdt irc channel, and that appeared to
be related to a workspace and eclipse instance running on a external
drive...due to some permission settings.
