Distributed issue tracking with Mylyn? [message #770288] Fri, 23 December 2011 20:50 Go to next message

Hi,

I now do a lot of small projects which come and go, all of them caught
in a git repository. I cannot (some of these projects are internal) and
I don't want (being a FLOSS maximalist) to use github for my projects
(to use its issue tracking) and it is quite a bother to build a new trac
instance for each of these projects. OTOH I would love to have those
tasks accessible from over the Internet (or the internal network) and so
local tasks in Mylyn are not good enough for me (moreover, as I have
learned in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=366925 Mylyn
maintainers are not willing to create a per-project local tasks
repositories).

So, I have pointed my focus to various distributed issue trackers. Aside
from rather disheartening thread on
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3203272/distributed-issue-tracker-for-git-with-usable-eclipse-mylyn-support,
I have found only https://github.com/mikegr/mylyn-ditz-connector, which
I haven't been able to build with Indigo and whose maintainer (put in Cc
here) claimed in the personal email correspondence project as abandoned.

Does anybody know about possible solution to my problem, please?

Thank you,

Matěj Cepl

Note that if integrating with these is important to you, you might want to consider building your own connector with the generic web connector. See
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Mylyn_User_Guide#Generic_Web_Templates_Connector

Jim Priest wrote a blog post on how to write a generic web connector:
http://www.thecrumb.com/2011/08/22/mylyn-meets-project-tracker/

and there is one on the Generic Web Connector for Redmine:
http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/HowTo_Mylyn

Good luck!

The problem is that these distributed issue trackers have (almost per
definition) pretty crappy web interfaces. Which is one of the reasons
why Mylyn connector would be even more valuable.

I will eventually take a look what could be done.

Thanks for replying,

Matěj
