Publishing in new PDT? [message #86974] Wed, 17 December 2008 03:46 Go to next message

I just downloaded the newest PDT version and was surprised to find no
"Publish files here" option in setting up the debug configuration.

I searched this site and a lot of other sites on how to get your projects
to automatically publish but couldn't get it to work. I tried mapping the
paths for the PHP server but that didn't work either.

Can someone please explain how to perform publishing in the new version?

PS: I don't usually ask questions like this because I'm usually able to
figure it out myself, but I've spent at least an hour trying to get this
to work to no avail. This just points to how complicated the new
publishing feature has been made (bad design).

Hi,

There's no publishing facility in new PDT version - it was depreceted.
You can publish your files using RSE.

I was wondering weather it will work in pdt 2... If not can You suggest
a different solution?

Anyway, you can use RSE, as I said, for project synchronization via FTP

As this question keeps coming up, I've placed a stub in the PDT FAQ.

Please feel free to add to it with perhaps a screenshot and more
information.

I have been trying to find the right information for the last week.
Everyone points to the fabled "RSE" but in all my readings I haven't
found any documentation on how exactly to set this up. For the most part
the TM / RSE pages only talk about the technology and what it enables
for developers.

The FAQ for RSE always is in regards to the developer except in the
section about "Working with TM / RSE as a User" but even then the
information is vague and not really that helpful.

I know this isn't specific to PDT but as myself and a few others are PHP
developers that are looking for a solution there needs to be something
to help us get started.

I am guessing my scenario is similar to others whereby we are developing
a application on our local machine and then want to get the files to a
web server (i.e. publish to the web server). It is great that RSE allows
us to have FTP and SSH connections to the server and we can see things
within the server. Now how is it possible to setup a build task so that
the task copies files from the local workspace / project to the defined
RSE connection????

I know this is probably something easy for people that are using RSE on
a day-to-day basis but so far I haven't been able to find the spot that
allows this.

Thanks for any information that can assist with this.

I'm using Aptanas synchrnize, but this is very important for me too, because upload with
Aptana's synchro is nightmare(sometime).

I have tested RSE few mounth ago, but upload with RSE was worse as Aptana's FTP feature

I added a link to the Getting Started documentation for RSE since people
haven't seem to be able to find it. It is included when you install
RSE as well in the help system.

Read through that document previously when I was hunting around for how
to get things working between my local workstation and a web server.
Unless I missed it, all that documentation just talks about how to get a
connection setup to the server and make it so that you can FTP / SSH
into the box.

Is there anything with RSE that will help PHP developers be able to
publish to the web server without having to manually move files around?
It would be really nice if there was a way to have an ANT script setup
to copy files between a project and an RSE connection but I haven't been
able to find out how to tie in an ANT script with RSE.

Well, if you have the Ant tools and maybe JDT installed (because I think
the ant editor and launching support still depend on JDT). You can add
an ANT builder to your PHP project. So that it will automatically FTP
it anytime you build.

If you don't want to build it everytime, you could create an ANT script,
and just run that to ftp your project files up to the host system. In
fact I would probably do that, or you can run any other type of Script
to FTP the files up, doesn't have to be ANT.

files are rewrited(replaced) ? or is there any kind of synchronization ? (time or crc compare)

now i think that i fu*k aptana ftp feature, this looks great great ;)

Should work the same way with PDT files...they just demonstrated the
functionality using C files.

So yes, if you export it should overwrite the remote system files.
Whatever worked in the C demo should work for PHP files as well.

Hi sNOP,

could we have a bit more information? Like what connection type you use
(I assume ssh)? There are known issues with the way that openSSH
implements some queries, which can lead to "out of handles" errors
on the server.

We're planning to improve the SSH connector for RSE 3.1m5 in terms
of performance, and I think that this improvement should also address
the mentioned openSSH problem:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=256581

Cheers,

I believe the issue is occurring for sNop with an FTP connection.

I have created video, where it's all described.

On the other site is Unix ProFtp in first example and Linux ProFtp 1.3.1 in second example.

In this video you can see, that RSE is for me unusable. You could see every thing in this
video.

I hope and i would be very very happy, if this prbolem would be ficex in next version.

sNop: you might want to open this as a bug/enhancement request for RSE
in the dsdp.tm project. That way it doesn't get lost in the newsgroup.

This is from TM newsgroup

Hello sNOP,

integration of RSE with Platform Team/Synchronization has already been implemented by a
Student for the Google Summer of Code programme this year, and it's just about to be
integrated into the RSE codebase:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=185925

it will be in with RSE 3.1m5.

Cheers,

That's great news :)
I've downloaded now pdt 2.1M5.
Do You know how to use it? Is it implemented in PDT 2.1M5 (it should be)
I need synchronization through ftp.

cheers

This isn't a feature of PDT. You need to download RSE 3.1M5 which is
part of the Target Management Component of the DSDP project on Eclipse.
http://download.eclipse.org/dsdp/tm/downloads/index.php for downloads.
For more info on Target management see
http://www.eclipse.org/dsdp/tm/

Oh.

I tried to install it through Help->Install New Software (Ecplise 3.4)
but When I added http://download.eclipse.org/dsdp/tm/updates/3.1milestones/
and checked TM and RSE it says :
Cannot find a solution satisfying the following requirements
org.eclipse.rcp.feature.group [3.5.0.v20090202-9RA1FwwFr-TNqU7GSg_iVTQ].

Ho should I download that depencies?? (In previous version of eclipse it
was much easier :/)

RSE 3.1 is targeted at eclipse 3.5 so it probably won't work on eclipse
3.4. Try 3.0.2 for eclipse 3.4 this may provide what you want.

But 3.0.2 doesn't support synchro or support ? and if not will be 3.0.3 support synchro
feature ? or it will be only on 3.1M5 and next releases ?

Sorry I don't know about the plans of TM (RSE). My comments were based on the fact that the person
was tring to install onto what appeared to be a 3.4 system and they wanted ftp support.
