Help needed as a newbie!

I have problem installing EDT into my Eclipse IDE.
The following are the steps I did:
- Help > Install New Software >
EDT http: // download.eclipse.org /edt/updates/0.7.0/M3

Problem Occurred:
Unable to connect to repository
--http: // download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/0.7.0/M3/content.xml

org.eclipse.equinox.p2.core.ProvisionException

Thank you in advance!!

I believe you are using the correct install steps. Maybe there's a network problem.

Can you try the nightly build? The nightly build has more features and is also quite stable at the moment. You can get the link to the nightly build link in the same page you get the M3 build link.

Looks like a network error but you might also be running afoul of a web blocker on your network. What happens when you paste the install link into the URL line on your browser? You should see a simple summary of the artifacts on the build. If you receive a network error or a web blocker message then this will confirm that the issue is external to Eclipse and the EDT build.

It looks like there's several spaces in your posted URL. You can take a look at your URL typed in Eclipse, and make sure no spaces.

Also, I would suggest you to install below latest build.
download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/1.0

Thanks all for your kind reply!!

The spaces for the weblink is due to the restriction from this eclipse forum. The actual implementation is without the spaces for the http:/ link

You guys are right! It might be due to my company network. How do I enable it? Any tips on doing so for Eclipse? By the way I am trying out the nightly link download.

You may try to specify a proxy in Windows > Preference > Network Connection, and then supply the Host & Port information in by clicking the Edit button for HTTP.

Proxy information would have to come from someone in your company...a network or security administrator.

Also, did you try the thing I suggested...pasting the URL for EDT into your browser? What was the result?

Hi Dan,

I have copied and paste the URL intow my brower. It works. I am able to see those jars and other files inside. So I guess this is not due to my network problem. The error comes from

Unable to connect to repository http://download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/nightly/content.xml
Unable to connect to repository http://download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/nightly/content.xml
Connection refused: connect

When I copy and paste http://download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/nightly/content.xml, this is not found.
So where can I download the correct copies of EDT??

Please help!!

Hi Jan,

In which version of Eclipse are you trying to install EDT (for example, "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 3.7.1", "Eclipse Classic 3.6.2")? There is no content.xml and I do not believe there ever was (there's just site.xml, content.jar, artifacts.jar).

I save eclipse-jee-indigo-SR1-win32, extract all and double click on eclipse.exe to run the program. Did I install anything wrong? Please do help!

Greatly appreciate in advance!

Hi Jan,
There are a few ways to get EDT, as described on the EDT Download page. http://eclipse.org/edt/#download

For folks that don't already have Eclipse, we recommend the All-in-one package which includes the Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 3.7 and the EDT plugins.

For folks that have Eclipse for Java EE Developers 3.6 or 3.7 (note, the Java EE package of Eclipse is required), you can use "Install New Software" option from the Help menu to add the EDT update site
http://download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/1.0.

Nightly builds are intended for contributors and extenders (and other people on the bleeding edge of EDT) more than users. The update site for the nightly builds is
http://download.eclipse.org/edt/updates/nightly.

Hi Joe,
You need the Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers. Seems you may be using a different package, since the message says "org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.core" is missing.

Another idea is to get the All in one build from the EDT downloads page, which includes Eclipse 3.7 Java EE and EDT packages in a single zip. There is an All in one build for Windows 64 bit.
Good luck!
