Planning Sapphire 0.4 rampdown and beyond [message #754532]

Sapphire 0.4 is set for 2011-12-01 release date. I have sent a request to EMO to schedule the release review. We should soon know the last date by which we must submit the final IP Log for the release. This will be the last date by which we can accept non-committer contributions in the 0.4 release. If I had to guess, we have at most two weeks left for this...

Looking beyond 0.4, I have added 0.5 release to the schedule with 2012-02-24 release date. This is the same date as Indigo SR2 is set to go out. Note that Sapphire is not part of Indigo, but aligning the two releases should simplify integration for adopters.

A big focus for the 0.5 release will be re-writing the diagram renderer to be based on plain GEF as opposed to Graphiti. This will reduce our dependencies significantly and also allow us to solve some problems in a manner that makes sense for Sapphire, independently of Graphiti's releases and priorities. Ling has made significant progress on this already. Once we have reached feature parity with the Graphiti renderer, we will start chipping away at the backlog of diagram editor enhancement requests.

Ok. The last date to submit the IP Log for the 0.4 release is 2011-11-17. Any non-committer contribution to the release will need to be submitted, reviewed and merged by that date. Two weeks left.
