Is there a way to provide a details part when the master part has an empty/null selection? In my case, the initial state of the page has no master objects (as the user hasn't added anything yet). But I'd like to show something other than nothingness while in this state.

Hi,

I hope its not too late:
Take a look at the
org.eclipse.ui.forms.IDetailsPageProvider
I relalized an empty page for an empty selection.

I don't see how that works with no selection. When I've attached a dynamic provider, it's not called when the editor is loaded (assuming the initial state has no items in the master part, and thus nothing to select).
