I am one of several developers working on a large, complex web project which involves a multi-project Eclipse workspace using Maven, M2E, WTP and Tomcat. As you can imagine, there is a lot that can go wrong if configuration files get overwritten or otherwise messed up.
The current grief is caused by the "org.eclipse.wst.common.component" file which seems quite critical to building the WAR and running it in debug from inside Eclipse.
There doesn't seem to be any interface for modifying this file (like a nice, friendly dialog) short of opening it in an edit window. Similarly, there doesn't seem to be any documentation in Eclipse or anywhere else explaining just what this critical file does.
If this file gets messed up, which has happened more than once, how is anyone supposed to know how to fix it? Can someone point me to the authoritative source of information on how this works?
