We are happy to announce that RMF (Requirements Modeling Framework) has just been posted to the proposal Website. A central component of the project is a library and GUI for editing requirements that are based on the RIF/ReqIF standard. Of course, there is much more to it. Please check out the details.

I created this post as a starting point for discussion. Also, if you have questions that are of general interest, please post them here. We look forward to your feedback!

Best,

- Michael

Great! Once the project is established (probably some time in August),
you can contribute your patches, bug fixes, and features to the project
through the Eclipse Bugzilla system.

Thanks,

Wayne

Once the project is created and provisioned, you can contribute bugs,
patches, new features, etc. The first step is communication. Monitor the
project and the project committers will help you sort out where you can
best contribute.

Thanks,

Wayne

Thanks Sopot for the nice words. Thats also our goal to fill this gap in the Eclipse ecosystem.

3) The initial source will be commited before Creation Review ?
4) Creation Review as I was reading is gathering developer(commiters) ?
5) It is tool for managing requirements so there will be requirements for this program Smile ?
6) Who will be responsible creating requirements ?

I am new to open source/eclipse community so I am a littel bit lost, sorry maybe for dummy questions Smile

Hi Rafal,

Thanks once again for your interest in RMF. Please find my comments below.
@Wayne: Please add if I have missed something

Hi

I have posted on eclipse forum(GreenBell) that I want to be involve in this project. The response was that " ... Feel free to contribute bugs and new features ..."
1) Do you need software developer ?
nirmal>Any one who can write clean code would do
2) Where can I download sources from this project, can I at all ?
nirmal>The downloads would be available as soon as the IP review at Eclipse is complete (IP review is the step after creation review. Creation review is planned to be completed by mid of next week). RMF will have a dedicated project page with Downloads link.
3) The initial source will be commited before Creation Review ?
nirmal>Source code will be able after IP review. Incase we go for a parallel IP process, the downloads will be available even before this, in parallel.
4) Creation Review as I was reading is gathering developer(commiters) ?
nirmal>Yes you are right. The initial code contributors automatically become committers (if approved during creation review). Others need to earn a committer status, starting with reporting bugs (not contributing bugs Smile ) and contributing patches. Once proven one could be absorbed as a new committer by a voting process.
5) It is tool for managing requirements so there will be requirements for this program Smile ?
nirmal>Yes of course. After creation review there will be bugzilla page for RMF where you could ask for new features
6) Who will be responsible creating requirements ?
nirmal>Anyone one with a Eclipse bugzilla login (registration is free)

I am new to open source/eclipse community so I am a littel bit lost, sorry maybe for dummy questions Smile
nirmal>None of them were dummy questions. Needs to be part of a FAQ at Eclipse. If its already there then it needs more visibility.
nirmal>If you want to play around with the framework, just let me know. Sources however will be available after IP review as I mentioned.
nirmal>Just to keep others with similar questions informed, do you mind if I add your questions to the forum post?

Thanks
Rafał

It would be great if i can play a little bit with this framework Smile
To become committer I must meet any other conditions besides writing clean code

Thanks a lot Wayne!

Shall we raise a request at IPZilla now or wait for the provisioning information first? Refactoring of namespaces, add licensing information etc. is nearing completion.

Giving you access to IPZilla is part of the provisioning process. You'll
have to wait ;-)

Hello,

A lot of expectation on this topic.
Many Open Source initiatives in the past with no future for RM tools.
Good basis this time : usage of standards as Eclipse & ReqIf.

We will continue to follow you with an industrial point of view : constraints we have on sustainability, standards, interoperability with other models, conf. Management, development life-cycle,...

We understand that this proposal is a first step. We wish to be active in the specification of the future orientations.

Can you add Thales as an interested party please ?

It is our practice to not modify a proposal once the creation process
has completed.

Now that this project has successful been created, the best way to
express interest in the project is to contribute. :-)

Hallo all,

We just got the Eclipse infrastructure for RMF up and running - thanks to everybody who helped make it happen, especially Wayne.

It will take a short while to setup the project, which you find at http://eclipse.org/rmf . In the meantime, feel free to visit the RMF forum at http://eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=230 . We also have the mailing list up and running.

There are still some requests of interested parties that do not appear on the proposal. I will create a complete list on the project page shortly.

Best,

- Michael

Hi,

is the source repository available anywhere? I would like to access it and since it is not ready yet on the project page I am asking if it is hosted somewhere else.

Thank you.

Hello Sopot,

The repository is currently offline, as we are in the middle of the IP review. Once we pass the review, a new repository (with no history) will be created.

If you want to check out the code, you can look at the code that is attached to the CQ:

https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=5542

Just unzip it and you're ready to go. Or wait until the new repository is up and running - I hope that this will be the case in a few weeks, maybe even just days.

Hope this helps!

- Michael
