File Search - Scope = Working Set --- Huhhh ? [message #696239] Wed, 13 July 2011 10:51
Eclipse UserFriend
I am using Version: Helios Service Release 2 Version: Helios Service Release 2 on a Fedora system.

I have a C++ project open, and several editor windows open.

The Project explorer is visible and a subdirectory withing the main project directory is highlighted.

I click on Search on the menu, then select Search.

In the Search string box, I enter a string which I know to exist in multiple files.
All Occurrences is selected in the Limit To box.

I select Working set in the Scope box. I select a predefined set which includes a subset of the projects source files.

I click on Search.

The results are clearly incomplete. Some files (that are within the "working set") that contain the string are NOT reported in the results window. I've verified that over and over. It's there. Eclipse search does NOT find it.

Shouldn't it ???

I close the results window, highlight the highest level directory of my particular collection of source files and repeat the search - with Scope still set to the same Working set. This time all of the results (*** I think ***) are reported.

I change the Project explorer to highlight the previous subdirectory. I repeat the same search. It still appears to work.

I completely close Eclipse and the re-run it.

I repeat the exact same search. Again, all results **appear*** to be found.

Why are the search results not consistent ???

I do not think the answer to this question should include anything like the phrase "if you want to search all the files within a particular subdirectory within your project, just select that subdirectory and set the scope to Selected resources", unless the Working set is something other then what I believe it is or IT JUST PLAIN DOES NOT WORK.

Having to scroll through hundreds of subdirectories in the project explorer to get to the particular subdirectory I want to search in is a time consuming painful process. Rather then do that, I do the Working set method.

Is the Working set search process broken or am I mistaken on how it is to function ?
