Hi Vasile,
Thanks for getting in touch. That's fabulous that you would like to be
involved with the project.
First I would like to get clear on the exact nature of your interest.
From what you say above I get the sense that you would like to both
participate via the GSoC and also as a contributor/committer on the
project. Are these two avenues separate? What I mean is, do you desire
to participate long term with the project regardless if your GSoC
application is accepted by the Eclipse Foundation and Google?
For the GSoC path, as I understand it, you need to prepare a specific
proposal for a project. We would be happy to give you guidance in this
regard so that your project is consistent with the needs of the project
and also something that is interesting for you to take on. We have to
sign up with Google as mentors in the Eclipse space; we are presently
doing this. Once all of the proposals are in, the Eclipse Foundations
short lists and orders the proposals that are of greatest interest.
Google then decides how many slots to award to Eclipse and matches are
made.
As far as your working on the project is concerned: capable, interested
and eager minds and hands are always welcome. Can you please give me
more information about your background so that we can get a better
feeling for your interests, skills and capabilities. More information
your project last summer would be particularly of interest, as would be
more background on your programming experience.

Hello,
Yes, I would like to participate both in the GSoC project and to become
a contributor/committer on this project. Let me present a little so that
you become aware of my background :).
As I said I'm a student in the 4th year of study and I have Computer
Science as my Major. I've started programming about 5-6 years ago and I've
been programming in Java for the last 3. In Java I've created multiple
applications using various technologies: from Swing GUI-s, socket
programming to database web applications(for these I worked with the
Tomcat and JBoss servers, the JBoss SEAM framework, EJB3, Hibernate,
RichFaces). Besides my studies I've also worked as a freelancer on RAC and
for the last 6 months I've been working part time as a Java Developer at a
small local software company. For the entire time that I've been
developing in Java I used Eclipse.
Besides the Java language I also have some experience in C and a little
bit in shell scripting and Ruby. I'm very motivated and I can quickly
learn and accommodate with any project.
Regarding the GSoC participation I would really appreciate your guidance
so that I can fully describe my future plans and implication in this
project. As a start I would like to know which are the next steps this
community will take towards implementing this project and what would be a
good project that I could commit to this summer. :)

that's really nice to hear that you would like me to participate with the
project. I'm eager to do all my best to provide you some valuable piece of
code this summer :) Currently I'm working on a more detailed outline of my
concept for the use case editor project[1]. I'll send it to you when I'm
finish and I will be glad if someone could read it and give me any
directions.
Let me tell you a little more about myself. I study computer science (3rd
year) at Poznan University of Technology and mathematics (1st year) at
Adam Mickiewicz University (both based in Poznan, Poland). I've been
playing with programming for a long time, but seriously started to be
interested in it about 5 years ago. In the beginning, (that is, in my high
school years) all my programming was about learning algorithms and
implementing them. But after some time I discovered that there are
different fields of computer science, that I found even more challenging
than any local algorithmic contests I took part in. During my computer
science studies I got familiar with some artificial intelligence and
cogitive sciences consepts as well as software engineering methodologies.
Now I can call them my main fields of interest.
I'm also interested in developing. I've been programming in Java for about
2 years, most of the time using Eclipse. During last summer I took part in
Eclipse Summer School[2] which was an intensive training covering Eclipse
as an IDE and as a platform. I get familiar with SWT, JFace, RCP, EMF and
GMF and I get started with Eclipse plug-in development. Apart from Java
and other object-oriented languages (C#, C++, a little bit of Python) I
used in my projects, I did a little of socket programming and I have some
knowledge on relational databases. Also sometimes I play a bit with
functional programming.
I think I'm a quick lerner and I'll adapt to the concepts of the ORMF
project easily. Please, let me know if there is anything I can do now to
help :)

Thank you for the information on your background and interests, it all
sounds very attractive!
Just a suggestion: you mention you are working on a more detailed
outline of your idea for the use case editor. If you are happy with
possibly coming on board with ORMF for your SoC, we actually have a few
specific ideas of projects that would be (hopefully) interesting to you
and that would be of great benefit to ORMF (we already have a use case
editor). Why don't you hold off on your outline for a day or two; we
will let you have our proposals and you can decide from there.

Hello,
Thank you for the kind words and the fantastic offer. Yes, I would
very much like to become a committer :). I would also like to know how
exactly is this going to work... I mean when does Eclipse accept this
project to become an integrated part of the organization and what will
the next steps be?

Very good, I will add you to the committers list. Please give me a
short biography, only a paragraph or two, to post with the announcement
and to eventually add to the ORMF project website. It can always be
revised for the website, so do not get hung up on the eloquence.
Our plans for the creation review are as follows:
1) The proposal needs to be refocussed to explain how we intend to
integrate with OSEE. This we take on this week.
2) We want to further expand our community of documented interested
parties. We had a lot of interest at EclipseCon and now we have to have
conversations to gel the relationships. This will take place over the
next two weeks.
3) We hope to expand our committer base to about ten people. This is
well underway and we hope to accomplish this over the next few weeks.
Once the above is accomplished, we will request a project creation
review. Our goal is to graduate into Incubation in six weeks meaning
mid May.

Hello,
Yes, I would like to participate both in the GSoC project and to become
a contributor/committer on this project. Let me present a little so that
you become aware of my background :).
As I said I'm a student in the 4th year of study and I have Computer
Science as my Major. I've started programming about 5-6 years ago and I've
been programming in Java for the last 3. In Java I've created multiple
applications using various technologies: from Swing GUI-s, socket
programming to database web applications(for these I worked with the
Tomcat and JBoss servers, the JBoss SEAM framework, EJB3, Hibernate,
RichFaces). Besides my studies I've also worked as a freelancer on RAC and
for the last 6 months I've been working part time as a Java Developer at a
small local software company. For the entire time that I've been
developing in Java I used Eclipse.
Besides the Java language I also have some experience in C and a little
bit in shell scripting and Ruby. I'm very motivated and I can quickly
learn and accommodate with any project.
Regarding the GSoC participation I would really appreciate your guidance
so that I can fully describe my future plans and implication in this
project. As a start I would like to know which are the next steps this
community will take towards implementing this project and what would be a
good project that I could commit to this summer. :)

that's really nice to hear that you would like me to participate with the
project. I'm eager to do all my best to provide you some valuable piece of
code this summer :) Currently I'm working on a more detailed outline of my
concept for the use case editor project[1]. I'll send it to you when I'm
finish and I will be glad if someone could read it and give me any
directions.
Let me tell you a little more about myself. I study computer science (3rd
year) at Poznan University of Technology and mathematics (1st year) at
Adam Mickiewicz University (both based in Poznan, Poland). I've been
playing with programming for a long time, but seriously started to be
interested in it about 5 years ago. In the beginning, (that is, in my high
school years) all my programming was about learning algorithms and
implementing them. But after some time I discovered that there are
different fields of computer science, that I found even more challenging
than any local algorithmic contests I took part in. During my computer
science studies I got familiar with some artificial intelligence and
cogitive sciences consepts as well as software engineering methodologies.
Now I can call them my main fields of interest.
I'm also interested in developing. I've been programming in Java for about
2 years, most of the time using Eclipse. During last summer I took part in
Eclipse Summer School[2] which was an intensive training covering Eclipse
as an IDE and as a platform. I get familiar with SWT, JFace, RCP, EMF and
GMF and I get started with Eclipse plug-in development. Apart from Java
and other object-oriented languages (C#, C++, a little bit of Python) I
used in my projects, I did a little of socket programming and I have some
knowledge on relational databases. Also sometimes I play a bit with
functional programming.
I think I'm a quick lerner and I'll adapt to the concepts of the ORMF
project easily. Please, let me know if there is anything I can do now to
help :)

Thank you for the information on your background and interests, it all
sounds very attractive!
Just a suggestion: you mention you are working on a more detailed
outline of your idea for the use case editor. If you are happy with
possibly coming on board with ORMF for your SoC, we actually have a few
specific ideas of projects that would be (hopefully) interesting to you
and that would be of great benefit to ORMF (we already have a use case
editor). Why don't you hold off on your outline for a day or two; we
will let you have our proposals and you can decide from there.

have come up with four rather neat (IMHO;-) projects. They need to be

Thank you for the kind words and the fantastic offer. Yes, I would
very much like to become a committer :). I would also like to know how
exactly is this going to work... I mean when does Eclipse accept this
project to become an integrated part of the organization and what will
the next steps be?

Very good, I will add you to the committers list. Please give me a
short biography, only a paragraph or two, to post with the announcement
and to eventually add to the ORMF project website. It can always be
revised for the website, so do not get hung up on the eloquence.
Our plans for the creation review are as follows:
1) The proposal needs to be refocussed to explain how we intend to
integrate with OSEE. This we take on this week.
2) We want to further expand our community of documented interested
parties. We had a lot of interest at EclipseCon and now we have to have
conversations to gel the relationships. This will take place over the
next two weeks.
3) We hope to expand our committer base to about ten people. This is
well underway and we hope to accomplish this over the next few weeks.
Once the above is accomplished, we will request a project creation
review. Our goal is to graduate into Incubation in six weeks meaning
mid May.
