After following the advice at http://www.eclipsezone.com/eclipse/forums/t53312.html and replacing createFolder with createPlaceholderFolder, I run into problem described in comment 2: the empty placeholder folders are not visible. How to work around this? Or is there a better way to construct such a layout?

My own idea was to use createFolder and add placeholder views to each folder to use as relative. I'll try to test it tomorrow.
